New TV Shows Premiering This Month (December)

Post by Dan »

Here’s what’s premiering for the month of December.

Real Rob (Netflix)
Image

The scripted series is an exaggerated yet brutally honest depiction of Schneider’s real life. Rob lives in two worlds, one where he’s the most important person on set, and the other, where he’s the third most important person in a three-person household, after his two-year-old daughter, Miranda, and his younger Mexican wife, Patricia. Patricia doesn’t quite grasp Rob’s level of fame, because when he was getting his first movie role, she was getting her first tricycle. Rob lives a life where his stalker is more reliable than his assistant, while his assistant is creepier than his stalker. Real Rob is a ‘close to the bone’ portrayal of the internationally famous comedian, from the ups and downs of celebrity life, to the closer to home issues Rob faces daily with his wife and daughter. Season 1 guest stars include George Lopez, David Spade, and Norm Macdonald. (Premieres December 1st)

Rev Runs Around the World (Travel Channel)
Image

International hip-hop artist and Run-DMC front man Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons has traveled the world with bandmates and friends. Now, he is ready to take on the world in a new way – with his family. Rev, along with his wife, Justine, and their kids, 18-year-old Russy and 7-year-old Miley, will embark on an unforgettable escapade in Travel Channel’s all-new 16-part series Rev Runs Around the World. Equipped with four around-the-world airline tickets and no itineraries, Rev intends to order room service and lie by the pool everyday. Justine and the kids have different plans! In each half-hour episode, the family will be stretched to their limits as they brave new territories, fascinating cultures and authentic food – with Rev in tow. (Premieres December 2nd)

Santas in the Barn (Tru TV)

This winter, America will brace itself for the ultimate Christmas count-down competition — a fantasy camp for Santas! In this heart-warming holiday special event, ten Santas from across the country are brought to live in a barn to compete with each other in an array of hilarious challenges meant to determine who most lives the "Santa Way." These would-be St. Nicks have to vote out their peers over the course of 8 episodes, all counting down to a Christmas Eve grand finale where the last Santa standing will win $100,000 and the title of America's Best Santa! (Premieres December 2nd)

Food Porn (FYI)

The most buzzed about, the most liked and the most inventive food being made today. (Premieres December 3rd)

Work Out New York (Bravo)
Image

It’s survival of the fittest this winter as Bravo Media premieres its new docu-series Work Out New York. The series goes inside the sexy and exclusive world of elite fitness training in New York City. Following the lives of a group of the city's hottest trainers, Lindsey Clayton, Joe Lazo, Layla Luciano, Lena Marti, Noah Neiman, Courtney Paul, and Holly Rilinger, the series sheds light on a group of high-end personal trainers, where competition for landing top clientele tests even the deepest of friendships. From rivalries to romance, these friends and colleagues know they can't be afraid to break a sweat to make their dreams of success come true. With the landscape of the fitness world changing at lightning speed, the trainers can't miss a beat or they may find themselves trying to catch up. The battle for who is on top never ends, and if they can’t keep their professional jealousies, disagreements and romances in check, the group’s intensity level could go sky high. (Premieres December 6th)

Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter (Adult Swim)
Image

Set in the pretend sleepy enclave of Garrity, Vermont (aka “B&B Town, USA!”), Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter is the story of a neon-clad man with a mysterious past and a highly specialized skill set – hunting werewolves. When a sudden plague of inexplicable werewolf fatalities strikes, the Garrity sheriff’s department finds itself in over its head and the fate of the townspeople is left up to Neon Joe. Will he catch the beast before the next full moon, or will it live another day and kill again? (Premieres December 7th)

Telenovela (NBC)
Image

If you think the steamy sex, sensational scandals and wrenching heartbreak on Latino soap operas are a little extreme, just wait until you see what happens behind the scenes. Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) stars in this new comedy about Ana Sofia, a sizzling TV superstar, and her lively family of cast and crew, all competing to steal the spotlight. When the cameras turn off, the drama turns up, as Ana battles pesky network execs, drunken script writers, narcissistic co-stars and an unfortunately familiar new onscreen love interest. (Premieres December 7th)

Married by Mom and Dad (TLC)
Image

Online dating, mobile apps, matchmaking through friends and Facebook stalking may be viable options for some, but not all. When the modern ways of dating don't work, four singles go to the two people who know them best--their parents--in hopes of finding their soulmates and walking down the aisle.
Married by Mom and Dad is a modern take on voluntary arranged marriages, based on old school tradition and real world success. Four singles who have been unable to find love in the world of modern dating, have now agreed to put their future into the hands of their parents. We follow each mom and dad through the process of meeting and vetting the potential future spouses and watch their kids meet their life partners for the first time. But the real work begins as the couples get to know what they like, dislike, and everything in between. (Premieres December 13th)

Childhood’s End (Syfy)
Image

Written by Arthur C. Clarke and hailed as a revolutionary work of science fiction since its publishing in 1953, Childhood’s End follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious “Overlords,” whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture. (Premieres December 14th)

The Expanse (Syfy)
Image

Hundreds of years in the future, humans have colonized the solar system. The U.N. controls Earth. Mars is an independent military power. The planets rely on the resources of the Asteroid Belt, where air and water are more precious than gold. For decades, tensions have been rising between these three places. Earth, Mars and the Belt are now on the brink of war. And all it will take is a single spark.
It is within this future that The Expanse begins. The series follows the case of a missing young woman that brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system that will expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. (Premieres December 14th)

F is for Family (Netflix)
Image

Based on comedian Bill Burr's childhood. Set in 1973, Frank Murphy is a 42 year old husband and father of three. He works his ass off five days a week at the airport, managing the baggage department for Mohican Airways, a medium-sized regional airline. He fought in Korea and dreamed of being a pilot – a dream that was permanently deferred when he got his girlfriend Sue pregnant. Now 15 years later, he’s married to Sue and has three kids, Kevin, Bill and Maureen. The closest he gets to flying a plane is pulling luggage off it.
Frustrated with life, Frank’s a man with a deeply ingrained sense of what’s wrong and what’s right, and that sense gets a workout as Frank finds himself buffeted by winds of change that he doesn’t understand or like. He’s perpetually aggravated by his kids, his cool neighbor Vic, phone salesmen, his workplace, commercials on TV – you name it, Frank can’t stand it. In the end, Frank loves his family and he wouldn’t trade what he has for anything in the world... but he would listen to the offer. (Premieres December 18th)

Making a Murderer (Netflix)
Image

Inspired by a newspaper article from 2005, directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos have spent the last decade documenting an unprecedented real-life thriller that spans more than thirty years. Set in America’s Heartland, Making a Murderer follows the harrowing story of Steven Avery, an outsider from the wrong side of the tracks, convicted and later exonerated of a brutal assault. His release triggered major criminal justice reform legislation, and he filed a lawsuit that threatened to expose corruption in local law enforcement and award him millions of dollars. But in the midst of his very public civil case, he suddenly finds himself the prime suspect in a grisly new crime.
The series takes viewers inside a riveting, high-stakes criminal case where reputation is everything and things are never as they appear. The filmmakers have documented every angle of the story, following the second investigation and ensuing trial of the accused, petitioning the court to avoid having to turn over their footage, gathering archival materials, and interviewing those closest to the case. (Premieres December 18th)

Dawn of the Croods (Netflix)
Image

The world’s first family is back for more laughs as they discover sports, sleepovers and other wonders in a world of exotic creatures and adventures. (Premieres December 24th)

Almost Genius (Tru TV)
Image

A show that celebrates the people, places and things that are almost successful, but can’t quite cut it in the end. Hosted by April Richardson and Chris Fairbanks. (Premieres December 29th)

"I'm excited for that new Rob Schneider show based on his real life" - said literally no one ever, including family members of Rob Schneider. Clearly Netflix is making so much money now they are literally wiping their ass with it and seeing if they can stream their actual shit over the internet.

yeah those two syfy shows are the only ones that interest me, but after Ascension I'll probably wait for full-season reviews before I invest any time in them.

Childhood's End might be my most anticipated tv sci-fi show ever.
If it can approach the quality of the Battlestar reboot, I will be more than satisfied.
This review of the show has me very hopeful, particularly this line:
Especially the miniseries' final episode, which delivers the most ambitious visual effects I've ever seen on TV.

I accidentally watched the first episode of The Expanse online, thinking it was the first episode of Childhood's End.
It was aight.

Didn't realize that Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter was a Jon Glazer show.

Starts tonight on Adult Swim. I will watch anything this dude does. Delocated is maybe the most underappreciated comedy of the decade.
