New TV Shows Premiering This Month (February)

Post by Dan »

Here’s what’s premiering for the month of February.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (FX)
Image

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is a limited series that takes you inside the O.J. Simpson trial with a riveting look at the legal teams battling to convict or acquit the football legend of double homicide. Based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, it explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt. (Premieres February 2nd)

Animals (HBO)

Created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano and produced by Duplass Brothers Television, Animals. focuses on the downtrodden creatures native to Earth’s least-habitable environment: New York City. Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own. (Premieres February 5th)

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (TBS)
Image

One of the most unique and visible comedic voices on television is coming to TBS in Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Breaking up late-night's all-male sausage fest, this new show from the longtime Daily Show correspondent will feature Samantha's nuanced view of political and cultural issues, her sharp interview skills, her repartee with world leaders and, of course, her 10-pound lady balls. (Premieres February 8th)

Not Safe with Nikki Glaser (Comedy Central)
Image

Not Safe with Nikki Glaser is a free-form venue where comic and curious perv Nikki investigates the issues the rest of us are too timid to ask about through a mix of panel discussions, field pieces and social experiments. If there's a sex or relationship topic that would make a normal TV host blush, Nikki will tackle it with an enthusiasm as shameless as it is entertaining. Prudes, consider yourselves on notice. (Premieres February 9th)

Those Who Can’t (truTV)

Those Who Can't is truTV's first foray into full-length scripted comedy. The half-hour show follows three trouble-making teachers, played by show creators Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy of the Denver-based comedy troupe The Grawlix. More inept than the kids they teach, they're out to beat the system as they struggle to survive each day on their own terms. Joining them is Maria Thayer (Eagleheart) as the school librarian with an insuppressible passion for life. (Premieres February 11th)

Vinyl (HBO)

Additional series regulars include Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger and Paul Ben-Victor. This eight–part event series follows Jake Epping (James Franco), an ordinary high school teacher, who is presented with the unthinkable mission of traveling back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Jake is willing to live in the past in order to solve perhaps the greatest mystery of the 20th century — who killed JFK, and could it have been stopped? As Jake tries to rewrite history, he discovers that the past does not want to be changed and will do anything to stop him. (Premieres February 15th)

Only mildly interested in Vinyl and 11.22.63. I fear they'll not be any good though.
