I'm super skeptical about fps as a movie format, but twitch posted a test reel from this a while back and I gotta grudgingly admit it was kinda fun, enough to get me curious. Not sure how it will work for a feature length tho, 10 mins held my attention, 90 minutes might not.

A lot of FPS games tell their entire story without ever changing viewpoints and manage to tell really engaging stories, I don't see why it couldn't work for a full length movie.

playing the game vs watching somebody else play the game

I can see it working as a short, just not sure it will hold my attention for more than like 20-30 mins

But I was thinking that for this to work in any way, they probably need to invent new approaches to staging/filming action because the viewer's POV is so radically different. And that's kinda interesting in itself.

Yeah I'm thinking the novelty of never seeing it before will be enough to sustain interest for an hour and a half.

what they rly need to do is incorporate the bloody face as a health indicator like Doom/Shadow Warrior though

tryna think of notable first person shit and all I can think of is Robocop and the Smack My Bitch Up video. It is cool when it happens

They should release this movie in the virtual reality format.

really curious as to what FPS games are telling stories that aren't just a collection of the same tropes that have been tossed around for the last decade

Bioshock, Deus Ex, Far Cry, Metro, Half-Life....all excellent FPS shooter series with strong storytelling.
I haven't played Fallout but I'd assume it deserves to be in there too from everything I've heard about it.

Those are all interesting, good games, but apart from HL2 (haven't played metro) none of them are particularly unique or interesting, and even that story is barely perceptible if you're not looking for it. The high end of game stories is usually half-baked non committal bullshit like Infinite

Though I won't be checking this out for the plot anyway, so who cares

i would argue bioshock, and bioshock 3 are two of the best story lines in games ever. the revelation at the end of the third one is enough to raise it far above its competition for creativity in the games realm of fps.

Liked it a lot.

Film was basically a first person throwback to the Crank movies. Sharlito Copley was an awesome wingman. Along with the novelty of the FPS perspective (which really didn't bother me), the plot also had a strong video game vibe; arguably the weakest aspect of the film, and very noticeable when things are slowed down to take a breather. The ultra violence was fucking glorious and put a huge smile on my face. I could do with never hearing Queen's Don't Stop Me Now ever again, though.
