ROTS obviously is an epic movie. I won't lie, I even liked Attack Of The Clones.

When that movie came out, right in between the 911 attacks and the Iraq war, some people thought that the story about Palpatine staging false-flag terrorist attacks in order to gain extra-judicial powers and become a dictator was an analogy to Bush's policies at that time.

But the funny thing is George Lucas already had the script of that movie ready in the year 2000. In fact, Lucas included that storyline about false-flag terrorist attacks in the original script of New Hope around 1975 but later scratched it.

He was probably inspired or influenced by some of the conspiracy theories floating around during the 1970s concerning terrorist attacks that hit Italy and were allegedly tied to Operation Gladio, several high Italian government officials, the Vatican, Freemasons and the Maffia. Coppola also alludes to these conspiracy theories in the Godfsther 3 and as we know Coppola was Lucas' mentor back then (right before he made the first Star Wars movie).

But the Nazis just framed one man, blaming it on communism. The conspiracy theories from the 1970s also claimed to link shadow governments, secret societies and organized crime to a spate of terrorist attacks, much like in the prequels.

what would be sadder -- and possibly true -- is if ep1 wasn't a cash-in, but an accurate manifestation of lukas' greatest artistic aspirations.........

It was absolutely 10000% Lucas's intended vision for the franchise. How is that even in question, considering the revisions he made to the original trilogy for the re-release? That's why they didn't want him anywhere near the new ones. TFA was probably actually more beholden to studio oversight than EP 1 specifically because they needed to make sure it didn't go off into some fucktarded direction that could've soured the rest of their franchise plans.

Alden Ehrenreich is in final negotiations to don the vest and pick up the blaster for the Star Wars standalone, according to sources, which centers on a younger version of the franchise favorite.

Following an exhaustive search, where 2,500 young men met for the project, a trio of Han hopefuls ended up on the finalist list, including Hail, Caesar!'s Ehrenreich, Kingsman actor Taron Egerton and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor. Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Brooklyn breakout Emory Cohen were among those on the shortlist in earlier rounds.

Ehrenreich will be taking over the Han Solo mantle from Harrison Ford, who first appeared as the solar-system-hopping swashbuckling smuggler with swagger and captain of Millennium Falcon in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, as well as The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Ford and the character made a triumphant return in 2015's The Force Awakens, the movie that rebooted the George Lucas-created sci-fi franchise and set in motion standalone and spin-off movies.

For the Disney and Lucasfilm production, Lord and Miller, of 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie fame, will direct from a script from father-son writing duo, Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.

The Han Solo spin-off is scheduled for release in 2018.

Just as Ford has his own starting-out legend (he was cast as Solo after doing line readings with the actors who were actually auditioning for the movie and his sarcasm due to not being considered for the part seeped through, winning over Lucas), Ehrenreich too has a colorful discovery tale: Steven Spielberg saw the boy in a bat mitzvah video. His antics impressed the filmmaker, which led to open doors. After a couple of television appearances, he made his feature debut with Francis Ford Coppola's 2009 film, Tetro.

More recently, the actor wowed critics by stealing scenes away from A-listers such as George Clooney and Josh Brolin in the Coen Bros.'s Hail, Caesar! in which he played a warbling, lasso-ing cowboy-turned-silent actor.

Ehrenreich has wrapped filming Iraq War drama The Yellow Birds with Tye Sheridan and Jennifer Aniston, and will next star in an untitled drama written and directed by Warren Beatty.

He is repped by CAA. Disney and CAA declined to comment.

trailer looks great. i finally watched gareth edwards' godzilla (2014) and was highly impressed. excellent, underrated movie. he's clearly adept with big time visual effects along with balancing large scale events with close-up character moments to keep the audience invested...no easy task with blockbuster movies. hard to believe he is relatively inexperienced as a director but i like his style a lot.
