it's a solid flick but idk about best, honestly I don't think it would even make it into my top 10. there's a lot of names that come to mind first, both legit good and 'so bad it's good' kind

superfly
shaft
foxy brown
dolemite
coffy
sweet sweetback
cotton comes to harlem
the mack
black cesar
etc...

Superfly or The Mack for me.
Am I alone in thinking shaft is wild overrated and actually totally boring? I can't sit through that shit. Never could. I like Singletons remake more for Peeples alone.

yes you are, but Shaft is also one of the least flamboyant entrees in the subgenre, it's very skimpy on the 'xploitation' side of things. it's mostly a straight-forward 70s PI noir but with a black lead instead of a typical white dude. there are a few others like this, solid crime movies labeled blaxploitation just because they have black characters.

the second one is more of the same iirc, maybe even more noirish. Shaft In Africa might be more up your alley though, it's just pure action exploitation

My recent list on The T.R.O.Y. Blog mentions some of the bigger blaxploitation films, including all the ones mentioned so far in this thread:

Peoples aka Gyangsta 4 Life definitely owns the remake.

I rewatched the Singleton one a little while ago and it holds up well. a solid late 90s actioner with a really great cast. Busta kills it as comic relief too.

There are actually a few solid 90s joints that might qualify as neo-blaxploitation (which crosses streams heavily with Rapsploitation but that's a side topic). Original Gangsters and Tresspass are both good fun. That movie where Ice Cube goes to africa might qualify. Etc..
