Enjoying this a ton but after ep5 it feels like they're dragging their feet a little. The direction of the story is confusing, some certainties need to be established so we know what's at stake here and what the conflict actually is. Ironically I think it might be a little more confusing if you are familiar with the character outside of the context of the tv show, you keep expecting multiple personalities and that colors how you interpret what they're showing, which clashes with the purposefully vague suggestions of possession by the Shadow King or whatever.

I'm wondering if the stylization will prove a double edged sword for them, this could end up as a style over substance kind of thing.

Even if that became the case, I'd still enjoy it more than the sub-softcore psuedo-capoeira exhibition that Daredevil devolved into at the end of last season.

So just to recap, as i finally caught up:
the shadow king/mojo whomever manifested itself into the dog, the book character, as well as lenny/benny? And now everyone in the main cast is stuck inside the world created by the recessed world of david's head and controlled by lenny aka shadow king/mojo? A lot to take in.
Excited for the next ep.

I heart this show. Wasn't quite as stellar as the last couple episodes, but sooooo much subtle, multi-layered shit going on. Hawely is an amazing storyteller, filmmaker, and knows how to collaborate with other talented artists. I'm along for the ride for anything this dude is involved with henceforth.

Just wrapped the last two episodes. I recommend anyone who gave it a shot and didnt stick through the entire way to try again. Intensely satisfying finale. Mostly.

The last two eps stepped up nicely, the direction and design in 7 in particular was incredible. But I still feel like the writing was shoddy overall. A well constructed narrative shouldn't need exposition dumps summing up what we've learned the last 3 episodes, even if it is an awesomely realized sequence.

I think the key for me is to just accept this as 'style IS the substance' and enjoy it on those terms. That's not a bad thing when something looks this awesome, although I do wish all this good acting was in service of more fleshed out characters.

The season had some great moments but I pretty much ended up feeling the same as I did at the end of the last one - I love the way Hawley is approaching this story and universe aesthetically, but the actual story itself leaves me cold. I guessed the big twist like 6 episodes ago, the whole thing with the Shadow King ultimately felt like it was for nothing, etc. It's a shame because on a scene by scene, set piece by set piece level this show is often incredible.

the alternate futures of david and syd's back story were my favorite episodes from this season.

the jon hamm VO segments were really effective. someone on reddit posted the transcript of all of them put together!

av club made a good point about the season finale that was bugging me too. https://tv.avclub.com/with-its-shocking ... 1826761690" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Transforming David from a fundamentally decent person with a troubled mind into someone capable of committing sexual assault in the course of a single episode is the needle scratch on the record player. It’s the porn scene in the middle of Out Of Africa. It’s edgy and unpredictable, but that doesn’t make it good. It changes the show on a fundamental level—and more than that, it pulls the rug out from under its viewers, scorning them for thinking they were watching one kind of show when in fact they were watching a very different one. It’s one thing to have a show’s characters lie to us. It’s quite another when a show lies to its audience.
i want to feel like i learned a lot from the themes this season dived into, and that this had to happen more or less feels like it was all for nothing. meta for this show to fulfill its own conspiracy/coincidence argument, sure. i feel a bit cheated though.

Agree 1000% wit that AV club thing, it underscores my problem with the show. They drop a bunch of stage whispered hints about what's coming throughout the season, but spend most of the season on Farouk and the fakeout bug monster possession, while doing almost nothing to actually set up David's character for it.

Show is not big on plot development, but even so it dragged in parts for sure. Finale and the last before that saved the season for me.

Episode with different David’s was probably the highlight for me.
