Top 10 best sports performances by an actor who

Post by Mo Cheeks »

wasn't an athletet

they are doing this on the local sports radio show, the top 10 performances by an actor playing a sports role that never was an athlete (ex Burt Reynolds in the longest yard (which could be #1) also they are doing the top 10 worst peformances by a non athlete playing an athlete's role

thought this would be an interesting topic for the board, name your top 10 on each

I oddly love Corbin Bernsen as Roger Dorn in Major League.

I love just about everybody in that movie.

Well, obviously the number one is De Niro in Raging Bull.

Edit: And after him in no particular order:

Chris Barnes as Tanner Boyle in the Bad News Bears
Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack
Bill Murray in Kingpin
James Gammon in Major League (it's the voice)
Burt Reynolds in Longest Yard
Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson in White Men Can't Jump (tie)
Nick Nolte in North Dallas Forty
I'm gonna pretend Captain Ron was about competitive sailing and nominate Kurt Russell
Gene Hackman in Hoosiers

Also, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Ted Knight from Caddyshack.

Hm, double edit: Somebody should include a character from Lebowski in their list.

Uh, how about Stallone in the Rocky series? The trainers for that movie said that Stallone, when he was running in the shipyard in Philly, was the fastest person on two legs. They said he ran so fast it blew their minds.

Then lets not forget the boxing itself.

Remember how fucking shreaded he was in Rocky IV?

I don't think any actor is fucking with that kind of athleticism.

I first read this as "atheist" and wondered why it wasn't in Steve Biko.

So did I.

Bill Simmons would point out that the kid from One Tree Hill who played Steve Alford in that ESPN Bobby Knight thingy had a sweet looking jumper.

Charlie Sheen was the shit in major league.

I may have missed the point, but I did so on purpose. I followed the rules! They're non-athletes playing athletes!

This thread isn't about "acting"

Its about non-athletes, and how they look playing sports in the movies.

Shoeless Joe was left handed in real life, while Ray Liotta played him right handed.

Just happened to read that the other day.

Personally, doesn't make a difference to me.
