Terrible Actors Who Were Great In One Role

Post by SeaTownBlues »

I don't really know any, but I was just curious. Are there any indisputably horrible actors that have completely killed one of their roles? Please respond with an answer.

Mark Wahlberg in Boogie Nights. I can't think of anything else he has been in that is watchable. I get the feeling he's so good in this because the role was not that far of a stretch.

I'm luke warm on Three Kings and haven't seen I Heart Huckabees. But The Big Hit is really one of the worst movies I've ever seen. To the point where I now hate Liger Woods and will think that every post he makes from here on out is worthless.

A search of recent oscar winners and losers revealed the following:

Haing S. Ngor in The Killing Fields (not a terrible actor, but this is his only good role)

Geena Davis in The Accidental Tourist (not sure if she was good in this or not, but hell, she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar and she's a terrible actress)

Sharon Stone in Casino, about the only good thing she's done.

Halle Berry, Monster's Ball

Charlize Theron in Monster

I feel like some of these were too obvious and that I'm forgetting ones that are even more obvious, but there you go.

When i clicked on this thread I felt like there was a defenative answer that somebody would give, but I don't know what it is.

Kevin Pollack was better in The Usual Suspects than in anything else he's ever done.

I think sometimes shitty actors walk into roles that are either so well written or so suited for them that they can't fuck it up.

Got it.

Right movie, wrong actor.

Stephen Baldwin was great in Usual Suspects, and nothing else he's done has come even close.

If you open this topic up to TV actors there are numerous.....which I can't recall...Maybe Chris Noth w/ Law and Order?

That link isn't working, but I sure hope it's a picture of biodome.

What else has Noth ever done beyond playing Mr. Big on Sex and the City (and Mr. Big, from what little I saw, was pretty much his L&O character anyway).

No. Neither of these actors are terrible, nor were these roles the greatest.

Nah, 'cause he reprised that role with slightly more personality playing Toad in the X-Men movies.
