Guilty Pleasures

Post by Snuggles the DESTROYER »

Thought I'd post this in Curb so to get more genres...

There are bands/artists that you love that you get shit for, basically becoming guilty pleasures. They probally don't get rave reviews and at the very least you can't play it around your friends much (if at all).

Its hard to tell if its a guilty pleasure or if the people around you are fucking morons...(ie alot of my friends dont like Isaac Hayes....they are fucking morons)

Everyone has one....

Personally....

Nat King Cole (Grew up with my Grandpa blaring this, and still love it)
Mudvayne (My worst I think...I just like their style)
Orange 9mm (Like all their albums......)
Cypress Hill's rap ppart of Skull and Bones

A couple to start things off.....

those teen-gross-out-t&A films of that blew up in the the late 90's:

American Pie
Road Trip
Eurotrip

All that shit.

I'm such a film nerd, but when I watch these... I just want to see hot bitches and gross shit.

I think when you reach your early twenties the concept of any music or movie or whatever being a guilty pleasure becomes null and void
if you like it, you like it
and that's all there is to it.

Having said that, though, there's always going to be one exception to the rule that you feel a little embarrassed about liking
and it's usually going to be a rock-band that strive desperatly for credibility but are a total joke.

So, for me, it's the first Hole album
i can't stand Courtney Love and find her both unpleasant and fraudulent
i'm not generally fond of women playing rock because i'm a sexist pig stuck in a rock-as-machismo fantasy
and the album is so feminine and pre-menstural it's like an audio equivalent of my wife or close personal friend at work during their time of the month
or even my childhood when my father and brother would walk on eggshells to try and avoid the wrath of a mother and two sisters in the midst of female hormone oblivion only for them to erupt at the sight of the toilet seat left up
but, despite all this, this album really is quite spectacular.

Most of the time I just think other people have bad taste. For instance, I
really like the Faces & the first four Rod Stewart albums, but most people dismiss these albums out of hand because of Rod's admittedly shitty late 70s-present period.

Nat King Cole shouldn't be a guilty pleasure. :naswtf:

I've embraced the fact that I enjoy shitty pop music sometimes, so no longer feel guilty about it.

Eurotrip is a great movie if only because of SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW.

I love America's Funniest Home Videos. A lot of people consider that a guilty pleasure, but I say that if you don't find AFV funny, you're an uptight faggot.

I watch Friends.

I prefer small cars.

I've seen Tori Amos in concert.

I'd rather have White Castle than a gormet Italian steak.

What's not funny about a Christmas tree falling on a two year old?

Whats funnier, is if the same two year old, in a terrible two rage, kicks his father in the nuts who than stumbles into the dining room table, kocking it over and destroying X-Mas dinner.

Bob Sagat is what's wrong with AFMV. Just show me the videos and don't make me watch fuck faced families and gay intros and maybe I'll let it slide.

T-Wrex, all of those are find but friends, which was a horrible show after the 2nd season.

I watch One Tree Hill and Everwood every week. Althought Everwood is actually a pretty good show, so I don't feel bad about it.

It'd be funnier if it was Trademark's kid that got smashed by the tree.

I like Everwood also. I actually made an Everwood appreciation thread a while ago and lots of people popped up in it like "yeah this show IS dope, word".

I'm not joking, that really happened.

are you talking about Pretty on the Inside or Live Through This??

Personally Live Through This is one of the best albums I've heard...The rumor is that Kurt wrote it all, so that wouldn't surprise me, as she had Billy Corgan come in and write Celebrity Skin...

someone needs to upload this album in mp3x

Pretty on the Inside's the first one (guess you knew that?). They were both pretty good, but I thought the latter was better, sounding like Kurt had a lot of input.
