Where is Shellac?

Post by tpp »

I have not been keeping up with what Mr Albini has been doing. Is there going to be another album put out by Shellac?

At Action Park and 1000 Hurts are 2 of my favourite rock albums.

Shellac's songs are fucking disgusting but somehow manage to be catchier than 99% of pop songs. I remember when they curated ATP 3 or 4 years ago, we saw them play 3 times, and for the whole weekend I could not get the bloody songs out of my head. Walking up to people all like......

HEY MAN
HEY MAN HEY MAN HEY MAN HEY MAN
I WANNA HAVE A FIGHT WITH YOU

Don't know when they're releasing a new album but they were playing live again 6 or 7 months ago
i saw 'em here in New York and i recall Yak sayin' they'd played London around the same time.

They did a couple of new songs
there was one where Albini is talking to a radio (or somethin' like that) that was wild.

"At action park" is classic
it absolutely blew me away when it dropped and remains a favorite of mine
but i think the other 2 albums are pretty patchy.

I wish they'd release a cd of the two early singles and all their rare tracks.

I have At Action Park and I love it, never checked the other anything else by them. It seems like everything that steve albini has a hand in that I have heard, I like alot. (Surfer Rosa, Shellac, more recently Big Black and Mclusky). What other projects by this man do I need to check?

Slint-tweez. <~~ Very different to "spiderland". More like Big Black playing Voivod.

Jesus Lizard-goat. <~~ Their best release. Total classic.

Jesus Lizard-liar. <~~ Recently picked this one up myself.

The Breeders-pod. <~~ Kim Deal out of The Pixies. Not a huge fan myself but a lot of people consider it better than any Pixies album. They're probably all girls though.

P.J Harvey-rid of me. <~~ Her best and most bombastic album. Sounds like she's backed by Beefheart's Magic Band.

Nirvana-in utero. <~~ Don't think i have to explain this one.

Labradford-fixed content. <~~ Their final release. Less "loveless"-meets-Neu!-ish than their earlier albums. More Ry Cooder-ish, drumless post-rock.

Wrangler Brutes-zulu. <~~ New hardcore band featuring members of Born Against and Universal Order Of Armageddon etc. This is my favorite album of the past couple of years and the best hardcore album i've heard since "jane doe" by Converge.
