Based on the Marquis de Sade's "120 Days of Sodom", Salo takes place during the tail end of World War II. Knowing the gig is up, four members of a Fascist party make a pact and kidnap young children off the street then ship them up to a remote castle. There, they use the children to fulfill their darkest desires.darkwingduck wrote:DAMN!!! $965.00. I take it this is a good movie...?Dango727 wrote:Look up Salo.
No, that's Un Chien Andalous, probably spelled it wrong. Salo's just kind of dull. It goes for that much because people like rare shit. It's a bragging thing. Or completists. And dude, check out their laser disc section. Criterion was putting out insane movies on laserdisc. Now that dvd is such a big moneymaker there's no way they'd be able to put those kind of movies anymore.darkwingduck wrote:^^^ so I read that this is the most disturbing, and violent film ever made. So fucked up that the director was assasinated for making it...
Is this the flick where someone straight razors someones EYE?
uhhhhh. Not sure if this is my cup of tea.

That shit is necessary - the transfer on the ones that are out now is grainy as hellFuk'n A wrote:and according to the latest Criterion newsletter, there will be new additions of Yojimbo, Sanjuro, and Seven Samurai in 2006.
I don't think i ever actually mentioned it. I'm in NY (Brooklyn) most of the time, some time in NJ, so i'm in a good spot for screenings, probably the best besides LA and SanFran. I try to catch what I can, but I miss a shitload because of work etc...where are you from, by the way? I may have missed it, not sure. just curious

They've re-released a couple things (M, Wages of Fear recently, some Kurosawas in 2006), but no, I don't think they'll be doing any of John Woo's stuff any time soon because they don't have the rights to it any longer.FAZER wrote:I just watched Le Samourai and Le Cercle Rouge, and I thought they were dope. Damn it! Yeah, I saw a new copy of Hardboiled at Ameoba but it was crazy expensive. I guess I'll just get some Asian versions.StormShadow wrote:They've re-released a couple things (M, Wages of Fear recently, some Kurosawas in 2006), but no, I don't think they'll be doing any of John Woo's stuff any time soon because they don't have the rights to it any longer.FAZER wrote:I just watched Le Samourai and Le Cercle Rouge, and I thought they were dope.
