Trouble With The Curve 2012
The dialogue is like stale cheese most of the time. The dialogue matures about halfway through. The story is decent after the 1/3 mark. Good camera use throughout. Fairly impactful movie all things considering. Goodman and adams save this movie Clint Eastwooda character is probably right but I don't like it. Old men tropes only get so far with me.

Burnt 2015
Bradley Cooper dominates. Bruhl happens to be able to play this role and is well cast. The acting here is solid. The thing about this one is it captures the intensity of the environment and the characters. Feels true to life in that sense. The intensity is great here. It's like Toccata and Fugue for restaurants. Great execution and planning on all fronts. A really enjoyable movie.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi 2011
Staying in a place with Netflix. Heard a lot about this when it came out. Is it cool? Yeah. Does it live up to all the hype? No.

Hot Girls Wanted 2015
Hilarious. Sold as an expose for the industry. I am no insider but this feels biased and shallow. Just bad research. Not a great documentary but it is somewhat interesting to see how these chicks live day to day not that you get much of that.

Never heard of Film Struck, but I've been quietly contemplating trying out Mubi. Seems to be pretty similar, but with a lot more variety.

The part where that dumb sloshpot decides to break the news about her porn career to her dad, while she's out hunting with him on Christmas day is hilarious.

Black Mama White Mama (1973) - Jonathan Demme wrote this kinda-WIP starring Pam Grier. It has some laughs and a bit of weird sleaze but it's not up there with the best of the genre.

Wild Tales (2014) - A revenge-themed anthology film from Argentina. Every story was good and I was very entertained throughout. This is a film I think most people could enjoy a lot.

The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) - Decent enough timewaster. I think I enjoyed the first one a bit more.

Revenge (2018) - Had lots of fun with this flick. Interesting time for something like this to be released as well. Best rape-revenge since Irreversible probably.

The Ravenous (2018) - Slowpaced Canadian zombie film with similarities to a lot of more recent post-apoc film like It Comes At Night, for instance. I'm a bit on the fence about it but not mad that I gave it a chance.

Loveless (2018) - Made by the most acclaimed Russian director this side of the millenium. The acting, cinematography and pretty much everything else is as good as it gets. But it kinda bored me. Very mature film about marriage and the disappearence of a little boy.

Enjoyed Revenge a bunch. Looking forward to copping that on blu-ray.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Miss Osbourne (1981)
Been trying to get into more of Walerian Borowczyk's work after watching Immoral Tales and The Beast, but despite the cool cast and concept, I found this more than just a little bit underwhelming.

There Will Be Blood (2007)
Always found P.T. Anderson highly overrated. Big fan of this, however and it's aged really well. It's largely because of DDL and Dano's performances. Curious to check out Phantom Thread for DDL's last hurrah.

The Old Dark House (1932)
Whale and Karloff back at it again. Charles Laughton is cool here, but I much preferred him as Dr. Moreau in Island of Lost Souls, which was also released in the same year. I'll never get how characters can fall in love with one another in such a minor amount of time in any movie, though.

here's what I've watched the last few weeks.

A Quiet Place (2018)- Fun, jumpy, great pacing. lots of things to love about this movie. not a single word for about the first 45 mins. the first 15 mins are great. If you hate annoying children in movies you'll love the beginning. This movie was super enjoyable.

Death Wish(2018)- at 60 something years old Bruce still has it. Eli Roth stays out of his own way and just made a revenge flick that is worth a watch. I can totally see this being a movie you get stuck on while flipping channels. There is literally a scene that looks like a NRA commercial and it's downer for sure. The girl who plays his daughter is hot as fuck tho.

Tomb Raider(2018)-I'll say this is way better than either of the Jolie films. It is basically a film that plays up all the video game stuff. The pacing and plot are basically videogame level. So take that as you will. I was entertained

A Wrinkle in Time(2018)-This is a kids movie and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. I read a review saying how the colors popped off the screen, I agree. The child acting doesn't suck although I wouldn't mind never seeing the girl who play Meg in anything ever again. 50ft tall Oprah was weird, Mindy Kaling was stupid, and Reese Witherspoon was tolerable. I guess this is something you could watch if you're babysitting or by yourself with a blunt.

Deadpool 2(2018)- get a little heavy with the jokes. Like they are forced at times. but damn this was fun. no time wasted on an origin story so it moves well. Loved it.

Face/Off(1997)-this has aged well! I guess it's getting some hate from millenials, whatever. Some parts didn't age well. Like the first shootout scene in the hangar. But goddamn Cage puts on a show here. Travolta too. This is probably the best American film Woo did.

Thor:Ragnarok(2017)- the tone of this was perfect and it was hilarious at times. Hulk/Thor scenes were worth it alone. Blanchet is meh. Tessa Thompson is so hot she slays it. Idris Elba has always been underutilzied in this series and that doesnt change much here.

Ganja & Hess - incredible movie, heard about it for ages and the reputation doesn't even do it justice. Usually filed as blaxploitation horror because of how it was distributed, but it's an art film through and through (the og version was hugely celebrated at Cannes but completely bricked in the US because the producers wanted something like Blacula and re-cut it.) It its proper form it's an abstract meditation of the vampire myth, addiction and faith, with heaps of southern gothic vibes. There are moments that reminded me heavily of Herzog's Nosferatu and Scott's The Hunger, to the point where I'm wondering if those directors were directly inspired by it. A phenomenal soundtrack by Nina Simone's brother/songwriter to boot. The restored version is on prime now, it's not the most accessible thing but if you're into artsy genre shit it's a gem.

Yeah I mean. She's making 9k per month her mother is in pain because of this. She leaves because she causes her mother and boyfriend some emotional pain and embarrassment over their moral embarrassment. Sure the medical. OK. That must suck. Sure the potential to become bender. OK. But pornography does not strike me as a per se horrible job. At least not because of this documentary
The Trip Italy (movie) 2016?
Funny. Saw the first season. This movie is funny. Great photography. Funny shit. Time well spent.

Bronx Tale 1993
Fucking great movie. The mood is great. The acting is good. The kids acting being so whatever is almost perfect really cause it feels like that's how they should be anyway considering what they're portraying. The music is fucking great and helps it stand out as a unique film. Palmintieri is at his height. Deniro is formidable. The main kid works. The a capella stuff is awesome

Wind River(2017)- Murder mystery starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. Nothing groundbreaking here but highly enjoyable. I’ve seen movies set in the cold and snow. But this a nice film to look at. Who knew Wyoming was so nice? Written and directed by the guy who wrote Sicario. Aka Chief Hale from SOA

Let the Corpses Tan (2018) - The third movie from this Walloon couple is yet again something different but as always a real feast for genre nerds, and perhaps this is something most people could enjoy. The plot is straightforward and very heavy on action, blood and style. It felt a bit like a mix of Free Fire and Hateful 8 packed with psychedelic visuals. Everyone who is already looking forward to this film will find everything they're looking for and at the same time it may attract some new fans too.

It has to be seen in a cinema if at all possible. Especially because of the sound effects. Even a drag of a cig sounds epic in this film.

But I think someone must have leaked a festival screener.

There's a few links to some copies here.

I uploaded the subtitles here (don't remember where I found them but they're perfect) https://www75.zippyshare.com/v/4gNnIOVV/file.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can up the film itself too if you guys don't use torrents. But I don't know where to up a 3g file.

I'm glad to discover this Friday fan film, I think it deserves a place in the top best of the series. Definitely more entertaining, scary and true to the series than parts 7 and later.

Den Of Thieves - Turrible. This movie wants to be Heat but it plays more like The Town, and it can't even do a passable facsimile of that. Awful writing, laughably bad characters, it's unclear who you're supposed to root for at any point, long-winded and boring, etc etc etc. Cribs directly and shamelessly from a bunch of better movies but doesn't know what to do with any of it. The last minute twist is not only nonsensical, it actively undermines the entire purpose of the exercise.

Hurricane Heist - A fun dumb movie that knows that knows exactly how dumb it is and how to have fun with that. Focuses on the premise, keeps a straight face about it, knows how to keep it brief and not overextend itself. It gave me a weird 'they don't make them like this anymore' feeling and it's actually really easy to pin down why - it was directed by Rob Cohen of xXx and the og Fast And Furious fame. This is what dumb action movies looked like before the superhero explosion. Unequivocally a better heist movie than Den Of Thieves.

Blockers - Some good raunchy lols but not enough imo. A movie about Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Barenholtz being overbearing sociopaths should be funnier than this. But it is pretty interesting to see what teen sex comedies look like in modern times. I hope the Indian girl gets more famous, she's really funny and charming here.

Superfly - Obviously bad, but had enough ridiculous shit to entertain me (note that I saw this on edibles and mushrooms.) It calls back to the original a lot and not surprisingly most of the best moments come from that. Some dull spots in the middle drag it down. Snow Patrol had me rolling in the isle every time they were on screen. Trying to parse it by any conventional metric is dumb, I think the best in-context critique here is that it needed more rappers. A movie like this can't really achieve rap cult classic status without having at least one rapper in a major role.

Let The Corpses Tan - Pretty much what I expected, and I'm very happy with it. Reminded me of a trippier take on Rabid Dogs or Almost Human. I actually enjoyed the story too, more so than I have in their other 2 movies. It's nothing crazy but the endlessly shifting permutations of double crosses and allegiances felt like classic pulp fodder. I'm kinda curious to read the book now and can see why the directors went out of their way to name it, it seems like it could be a slezy euro take on something Parker-ish.

In Bruges 2008
Im staying in a place with Netflix right now.
Really liked this one. Fucking hilarious. They're doing the modern comedy thing with the serious and the funny stuff together. But with its obvious twist on everything. Gleeson is great. Farrell is great. The story and the way things play out feels great.
Fiennes the mystery man is fucking great in an uncharacteristic role for him
Really liked this movie
