good prints of these movies do exist, so you might get lucky. once in a great while these type of ultra cheap bootlegs do come through with something surprisingly great. personally i'd kill for a good version of CF&R, so I would risk the 7$ to find out

this whole line of sets actually has some promising things. a lot of titles that are fairly easy to find, but some very rare things too. i'm tempted to track a few of these down for the fuck of it.

Word. I just read on another site that these are comparable in quality to the transfers that are already out for most of the titles. If that's true then these sets are a steal. I'm going to cop, I'll report back later.

Nah no screenshots. Just read in a thread on the dvdtalk forums from a poster that compared one of the sets to a couple Blue Underground releases and said they were similar in quality. I ordered it though, wait a few days and I'll post some screenshots

Yeah, I'm extremely skeptical though. The price point is waaay too low and I'm pretty sure Pop Flix doesn't hold the rights to most, if any, of these movies.

So um yeah, I have no idea how its even possible, but these are pretty awesome transfers. Some background fuzz as far as the sound goes but they look much better than I expected (i've only checked CRF and Rome Armed To The Teeth so far).

I'm having trouble making screenshots for some reason. MS Paint is being faggy. Will try again tomorrow.

Yes. I'm telling you its the real deal. Defies all logic.

I tried to take a screenshot of the sniper dude on the roof aiming at the minicooperish car but when I try to save what I "print screen"ed into MS Paint it just saves a black square. I can't figure it out.

Probably the first new movie to be released on the BU label in recent years. Thought they were churning all their old titles to Blu-Ray.

Trailer looks cool by the way.

wild east finally gets off their ass

Confessions... is def the main attraction here, it's a great 70s cop drama/thriller by any standards. Damiani was one of the best directors for this kind of thing, Nero and Balsam are great actors. It's not exactly action packed but it's not boring by any means, just puts a lot of time into the story. Highly recommended, the dvd is worth it for this movie alone

Summertime Killer is a little different, it reminded me of late 60s hippy movies like easy rider and zabriskie point. First half is a solid revenge movie with some cool motorcycle action, second half gets weird and kinda artsy and tries to turn the revenge plot on itself through the 'redemption via love' angle. It's a valiant effort that doesn't quite work, Mitchum just doesn't have the acting chops to carry it. Olivia Hussey and Karl Mulden help a lot, but not enough. So in the end you get something that might engage fans deep into the genre, but that's about it.

so Machinegun McCain is pretty sweet but not really an action movie by any means. More like a nihilistic character piece, kinda noirish too. The acting by Cassavettes and Falk really makes it worthwhile, and direction is good too.

this looks interesting in that 'made in the 80s for 5 bucks kind of way':

a bit of info here:

http://trashy-filipino-war-movies.blogs ... oasia.html

Unfortunately, I still haven't seen the new THE EXPENDABLES but here's some spiffy info that might interest you: To cash in on the new film the crappy bootleg company VideoAsia are releasing a box they've appropriately entitled "The Expendables 2" with the added sub title "Zero Heroes" (haha)!

Needless to say none of the films in the set is a sequel to Sly's new film, in fact they are actually all old films but... hey... we thrive on old trashy war flicks here so let's have a look at this set shall we? Well, as much of a look as you can have when you HAVEN'T actually got the box, LOL. In fact I didn't even know about the set till this afternoon when Karlos, one of the faithful readers of this blog, mentioned to me in a comment that it's going to be released (and thanks heaps for that, mate!).

I have all my info from what's mentioned on various webstores' pages so obviously details might change. The set is being released by VideoAsia in the US and contains these four films:

THE EXPENDABLES (Cirio H. Santiago, Philippines, 1988)

WILD TEAM aka I Cinque del Condor (Umberto Lenzi, Italy, 1985)

COBRA MISSION (Fabrizio De Angelis, Italy/Philippines, 1986)

COBRA MISSION 2 (Camillo Teti, Italy/Philippines, 1989)

Not bad, not bad. If I were you I'd avoid reading about the three latter films on IMDb. I'm not gonna bother to check but from memory I seem to recall they were all ridiculed by the IMDb "experts", LMAO. Yeah, well, you know how it is. Many of the films on my blog are great fun but they're probably never going to get any positive criticism by ordinary reviewers (or IMDb users). But that's alright, we have fun with these films and they don't. It's a question of which crowd you'd rather be in, the ones who just sneer at good fun or the ones who just have fun, LOL.

Anyway, from a personal perspective I'm definitely looking forward to this set because it contains COBRA MISSION 2. I've got the other ones (you can check entries for all four films in the bar on the right). I've only seen the Japanese VHS for COBRA MISSION 2 one single time on eBay and unfortunately I was so careless as to think no one was gonna make a bid for it so I only placed a small amount of dollar coins on it and, well, I "paid" for my carelessness. :-(

this is from the same director who made Romanzo Criminale, which was pretty ok but not quite great. this one is supposed to be better. looks kinda similar to Mesrine actually, at least as far as trailer and general subject matter

Really liked Romanzo Criminale and thought Mesrine was fucking incredible so if it's anything in-between those two films in terms of quality it will be awesome.

Almost Human is getting a first time DVD release in the UK this May. I'm familiar with some of Lenzi's work but I know next to nothing about the polizia genre movies, is this worth my time?

Oh yeah bigtime, for you especially as there are some horror overtones in how dark and distrubing it is in its most intense moments. Might be Milian's best performance in the whole genre too, which is saying a lot. def check this one out
