Danger Mouse appreciation (the cartoon)

Post by drizzle »

I just got the dvd used for cheap, holy shit this is awesome. The first season is all 10 minute episodes, some of them are miles ahead of adult swim in terms of absurdist humor delivered in a short batch.

It's hard to describe if you've never seen it. A mixture of off the wall plots (villain tries to take over the world with giant chickens, villain tries to take over the world by turning elephants into sugar cubes, etc), simple animation with occasional touches of trippy brilliance, really really bad jokes and puns delivered enough conviction and deadpan to turn them to comedy gold, parodies on movies (this is way ahead of its time), half-serious half-satire touches of good old fashioned british snob racism in cartoon form (check out the foreign accents), plus a ton of other shit that's too crazy for words.

Watching this I have no idea how this is supposed to be for children, it would go over the head of most teenagers, forget younger kids.

Also, Baron Greenback is my new alias

Danger Mouse is the shit.

Used to catch this back to back with Count Duckula and Bananaman. Thames Television knew their stuff.

Found a Dangermouse tape with three or four episodes on it in the used bin for 95 cents. Good stuff. Count Duckula was in one of the episodes.

Love how the theme goes from something Immortal Technique or Necro would sample, to Supergrass.

Dangermouse was the shit. His boss was some sort of Toadman right?

I can't believe that you guys know about trapdoor. Those episodes only went for 5 minutes if I remember correctly.

I seem to remember every episode the little blue blob thing accidentally opened the trapdoor and got chased by a monster. Was he not listening to the theme song???

DON'T YOU OPEN THAT TRAP-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR

CAUSE THERE'S SOMETHING DOWN THERE

They really couldn't have made it any more obvious.

Duuuude, his boss was a walrus called Colonel K. The toad was Baron Silas Greenback, the villain who had an Italian crow sidekick called Stilletto.
