Hollywood please stop the madness!!!

Post by Jizzy »

With the upcoming remakes of Old Boy and The Whicker Man I was waiting for this one to come along. Actually surprised its took them this long to remake it...cunts. What irks me that that moron responsible for "Stealth" (one of the worst films I can remember) and "XXX" is involved.

Battle Royale to US

New Line has snatched up the rights to remake BATTLE ROYALE - not a movie about the infamous Royal Rumbles from the 80s/early-90s WWF but the 2000 Japanese thriller our own Arrow described as "unsettling." The film takes place in futuristic Japan where the government has decided (in an effort to keep overpopulation down) to annually send a random group of 9th graders to a remote island stocked with numerous weapons and the directive that only the last boy/girl standing can return.

Pretty brutal, huh? An American remake could only neuter the insanity of the original but producers have insisted the remake will push the limits of the R-rating. Neal Moritz (who's dropped some major stinkers like STEALTH, XXX2 and TORQUE on us lately) and Roy Lee (THE RING) will produce for New Line.

With the rash of terrible Japan-to-American remakes, should we tamper with BATTLE ROYALE? Or as The Beatles once said, let it be? And why haven't we seen a filmed version of the 1988 Royal Rumble yet?

As long as Amanda Bynes is starring, Im down.

The trailers for the Wicker Man remake look kinda ok too.

i actually made a contious decision not to post it, as the idea is fucking awful and by drawing attention to it we are just making it stronger

i'm hoping it will get lost in the shuffle somewhere

btw, also planned for a remake : bangkok dangerous - this was over rated and mediocre so i could give a fuck, except that it's with Cage who deserves better

I only watch remakes.

It's great quality control.

Any dumb-ass movie can get made once.

For some shit to be worth making twice? Straight classic status, doggie.

Terrible news indeed.

The movie was nice, but it just couldn't touch the graphic novel which was gully as fuck.

I would assume that the BR remake would be just as uninteresting as the original and have the same shitty ending. People should just read the book instead

An American remake of The Wickerman should never have been done

Damn I knew Roy Lee had a music shop, and he made beats on his Korg Triton, but I didn't know he was a movie producer.

the twist is one thing, i caught on to it about half way through but i was also expecting something crazy like that

the thing that bothers me about the 3rd act, is that relying on hypnosis for resolution seemed like a real cop out. It's just bad unimaginative writing to me, like they couldn't think of anything better so they just said fuck it and brainwashed the characters to desired result

but in all fairness i have to say i've been real critical of this whole trilogy, i loved Mr Vengeance but wasn't crazy about Oldboy and lady vengeance was just empty pretty pictures (with a few exceptional moments)
