The conclusion is kinda predictable and rushed, but its a solid, very fun read. If you like his older stuff, its similar. A little more tame, but its still an Irvine Welsh novel. There is a cool male on male rape scene.
Sounds delightful - might pick it up.

'Filth' is my favourite Welsh book. I don't think anyone has ever created a character as loathsome as that Bruce guy - a complete cunt!

pretty fascinating shit even though i am rarely in said predicament. good stuff to know though.

re-reading this. very sobering book. Martin Rees basically suggests that humans have a 50/50 chance of surviving till the end of the 21st century and outlines 12 probable ways that we'll go out.

This book is really really good. But the ending is disappointing. There are some serious :ohsh: moments in it though.

I just finished Confederacy of Dunces and it was amazing. Same level of humor as Catch 22.

A book about the most notorious mafia hitman in history. Guy has over 200 bodies to his name, including an unverified account that he was in a group of 5 that killed Jimmy Hoffa and threw his body into a car compactor.

This guy would torture motherfuckers for fun. It is actually very poorly written, but the subject matter is too entertaining not to like it.

I am a big Chabon fan. He is from Pittsburgh, and we went to the same university. Mysteries of Pittsburgh is a must read for everyone.

started reading that after a reccomendation from a pretty stand-up guy. Had to return it after I noticed a visible vagina growing in between my legs after reading sections of it. What a fucking crock of shit. I just finished:

was pretty meh. I assume that Lehane kind of steadied himself around the time Mystic River hit (which I haven't read, but I've seen the movie). This book is pretty overwrought, some of the dialouge had be rolling my eyes and groaning audibly at the metro, but I had to finish it just to see who was bodying all of those people. There's some pretty decent suspense and violence, but overall a generous C-minus.

Image
Started this this morning. Hiaasen is fucking tits with the pen, all of his Florida crazies are so off-the-chain looney, endless entertainment. Basically a Hurricaine has ravaged the keys and a clatch of characters look for ways to scam off of it. Floridians should read all of Hiaasen's shit. Non-Floridians too.

Nah, not that crazy expensive. Been to the mid-town one and there are (or were) plenty of entrees at or under 20 bucks.

and yeah, book and tv show are dope.

Was on a trip for a week and just finished

Very good read. Too much of the bells and whistles bullshit that plagues motherfucker's whole generation of writers, and the ending falls apart, but still a great book.

Image

One of the more interesting books I've read in awhile. Was really worried about it looking at the cover, but got a good rec on it, and shit is hella readable, and just entertaining as hell. Basically looking at various injuries that start to explain the crazy ass way the brain works (phantom limbs and the like).

Image

Michael Lewis sports writing is always dope, but this book comes off as kind of disjointed. He's basically telling the story of a kid who is projected to be an NFL caliber LT, while also explaining the rise in prominence of LT's across the NFL. He stops to explain the rise of the passing game -- and the chapters on Bill Walsh and the rise of the WCO are the dopest -- but in the end it's kind of a mess. If you come to terms with the facts that Lewis college buddy took in a six-six, 320 HS sophomore (that lewis wanted to write about), and that lewis is a 9er fan (and he wanted to write about them), then it's a dope ass read. Most convincing section was on why Montana and Young are so overrated as QB's (and I'm a 9er fan).

Image

Fast, entertaining read about/by Henry Hill (Ray Liotta from Goodfellas). Most of this shit is already covered in Wiseguy, and a lot better. Only interesting fun fact was that Hill's Witness Protection Program agent (and homie) was married to Norah Ephron, and most of My Blue Heaven was lifted directly from his experiences. Outside of that, pretty wack.

right now, gonna go back to finally getting around to Everything is Illuminated, which I'm hoping will be Foer before he got the McSweeney's meat hooks in him.

just started this, I found it in a pile of free books sitting on a table in front of a house late one night while walking home from the bar. I haven't really been reading much lately though.

Image
I bought this a long time ago and started reading it a month ago, I read a little every now and then. I've been lazy about reading lately.

Image
yep

Image
I haven't started yet, but it is lying near my bed. I read Mother Night not too long ago. It was cool.
