The Greatest Movies You Have Ever Seen

Post by cascarrabias »

Why not?

Make a list (10, 25, 50, hell 100) of the greatest movies you have ever seen.

Or just a couple. The first few that come to mind.

I am making a top 50. Straight up. No frills. Best movies I've ever seen. The more frequent posters in CYE (drizzle, StormShadow, Andvil, Ice, I am looking at you) should do something similar.

Casino - subconsciously I think I just like seeing Lester getting beat the fuck up.

Crash was dope too because I'm deep like that.

Movies in the canon of "Great Films" that I considered great upon viewing

(In no particular order - I am not qualified to rank them)

Paths of Glory
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Third Man
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
2001: A Space Odyssey
Amadeus
Vertigo
Chinatown
The Godfather
Dr. Strangelove
Pulp Fiction
Apocalypse Now
Breaking the Waves
Malcolm X
Goodfellas
The Conversation

There are plenty of so-called great movies I've seen that didn't do anything for me (Citizen Kane, The Conformist, Blade Runner) and also plenty of films that are recognized as great that I have yet to see.

was i supposed to spend thirty minutes conjuring up a list of every movie that I can tolerate to watch more than once so everyone can nod to themselves in agreement? scarface, goodfellas, godfather, pulp fiction, 187, basically any movie with guns, titties, and explosions.

Citizen Kane
This Is Spinal Tap

Witness For The Prosecution
Hunchback of Notre Damn (1939)
The Conformist
The Good The Bad The Ugly
Psycho
Vertigo
Le Diabolique

I dunno, I can't think right now, so many fucking movies that I love, so many I've seen recently too. I can easily admit I've went through a transitional period in the past 3 years, really delving deep into cinema. I look back at my original dvd collection and scratch my head sometimes at things I thought were the shit. It's exciting to know that no matter how many great movies you watch there's a million more you haven't seen.

I don't understand that first part. A lot of people are like that though. Why does it seem ok to read a book from before you're born, but yet people get turned off by films that are older than them?

I watch so many classics each week and not to study them or anything, I just find them to be highly entertaining.

Some of my favorite films of all time are:

The Apartment
Some Like it Hot
Sophie Scholl
Casablanca
Marty
Tadpole
Blackboard Jungle
Goodfellas
The Big Lebowski
The Graduate
and virtually every Woody Allen film which he stars in

I seriously could keep going with this list.
