Scratch off King Kut (or DJ Cheese which is his official alias). I don't know where I read that he passed, but I can't stand by it anymore. His Wiki page says nothing that indicates that he died.

This is an amazing list so far. I keep thinking of obscure names who died, and when I check they are already on there!

Props to Jaz and the others' whose work he's building off of.

not too big, but still, I remember it seemed like a big deal when one of the Coupt's Hypemen, "Tarus" Jackson was shot and killed during a home invasion.

this is so ridiculous!
Jam Master Jay, rapper with the popular group Run-DMC, was shot to death in his recording studio in October 2002 at age 37 by an unknown assailant. This is the latest in a long string of violence associated with rappers, who produce a style of music that is infamously violent in nature (though Jam Master Jay himself was more positive than most).

JMJ's murder affected me the most bc Run-DMC was my gateway into hip hop. I liked it before, but nothing hit as hard as them. While in high school, around early 1984, a rumor spread like wildfire that Jay was murdered for his Cazals. This was before the internet and twitter, so the rumor became fact within a couple of hours. Being kids we were all making jokes about it, since the Run-DMC phenomenon wasn't even six months old. Still, we were certainly glad when we eventually learned he hadn't died.

18 years later, when I heard the news I immediately flashbacked to that time. Shit was like a cruel foreshadowing; it was bad enough that someone "positive" like him died so violently but for those who remember that rumor it was like he died twice.

D-Boy

Rodriguez died in 1990 after being shot upon leaving his East Dallas apartment. As of yet, no official motive has been revealed for the shooting. According to his mother: "They say it was everything from mistaken identity to a robbery attempt, but nobody really knows."[5]As a tribute to her late son, Cookie renamed Street Church Academy as the "D-Boy Community Center" after his death. Lyrical Strength.. was completed just one week before D-Boy's death and was released in November 1990.

Comunalien (down with some of the Old Dominon guy's)

Death
The crew recorded a lot of material prior to Paulson's onfortunate death on May 8th, 1998. It was 6 days before he would leave Hawaii and travel back to Seattle for good.
