The Horror Movie Thread

Post by Spartan »

Decided to make a go of doing a Horror thread. Too many movies out there that are a bit too niche to start creating brand new threads all the time and I don't wanna be CYE's very own sebastian gets busy here.

So anyway.

First up, Black Death starrring Sean Bean. Directed by Christopher Smith from Severence, Triangle & Creep (Raw Meat rip-off) fame. Looks cool.

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iEualA0ujdo&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iEualA0ujdo&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
TV spots just started on UK TV.

It's time for me to cop a Blu-Ray player.

Blue Underground announce Maniac hitting Blu-Ray and some big treats for you New Yorkers.

http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?optio ... Itemid=167

[quote]Continuing to bring its library of international fright features to Blu-ray, Blue Underground gave Fango the scoop on a bunch more releases to look forward to. The most noteworthy is a new, mega-packed special edition of William Lustigג€™s MANIAC, coming just in time for Halloween.

The notorious Joe Spinell-starring gorefest will be unleashed in two-DVD and two-Blu-ray sets October 26, with a brand new hi-def transfer and (on the latter) 7.1 DTS-HD audio. Special features have yet to be finalized, but weג€™re told there will be around six or seven hoursג€™ worth of ג€™em, including fresh interviews with lead actress Caroline Munro, FX creator Tom Savini, composer Jay Chattaway and ג€œManiacג€ songwriters Michael Sembello and Dennis Matkosky (yes, the FLASHDANCE hit was originally intended for MANIACג€™s soundtrack!). Weג€™ll bring you full details as soon as we get ג€™em. Lustigג€™s urban actioner VIGILANTE makes its Blu-ray debut via BU September 21, and on the companyג€™s Blu-ray schedule for 2011 (no specific dates yet) are Dario Argentoג€™s DEEP RED, INFERNO and CAT Oג€™ NINE TAILS, Larry Cohenג€™s Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and GOD TOLD ME TO and Harry K

Final installment in Lucifer Valentine's Vomit Gore Trilogy. The imaginatively titled Slow Torture Puke Chamber.

NSFW trailer doesn't embed, here's the disturbing teaser anyway.

Still haven't seen the second one, ReGorgitated Sacrifice.

EDIT: Think I have the NSFW trailer working.

I could copy and paste the movie synopsis but they make no sense at all. I have the first two and I'll be watching them back to back and doing a write up possibly later on today.

AFTERMATH, perhaps the most disgusting film ever made (and one of the films on our most disturbing horror films ever made list), has just popped up on netflix watch instantly . the only circumstance i can imagine you wanting to put this on would be a during a really bad blind date you want to get out of fast, but i thought iג€™d point it out to those of you who are either a) into cinematic endurance tests or b) really, really sick puppies.

About to get stuck into Regoregitated Sacrifice. Hopefully it's not an incoherent mess with no plot like the first one.

i read about that korean one but supposedly it's more of a social satire than a 'big pigs going nuts' movie.

and this one isn't about a pig or pigs. it's about a hick who captures women and tortures them. haven't seen it yet but i'll write a review like i promised him and post it here too.

A hybrid of backwoods/redneck horror ala Deliverance, and conventional monster movie, there's familiar fish-out-of-water comedy as the city policeman marvels at the crazy locals, before eventually warming to them. References to the genre heritage are thrown in, with Jaws receiving a particularly explicit nod.
'

apparently there's also hogzilla and pig hunt

Finished watching ReGOREgitated Sacrifice (short run time) & Slaughtered Vomit Dolls today. So yeah, they're very fetishistic and experimental. Completely extreme gross out movies on some art-house shit (particularly the first one) with plenty of extreme gore and vomit drinking. Describing them as films is a pretty fucking loose term. I guess fans of the August Underground movies will enjoy them although these two films might be even more extreme imo. Not really my cup of tea, can't really recommend them to anyone I know.

Razorback is very dope. I'm still hoping there's a pre-theatrical cut version in a vault somewhere that will eventually see the light of day.

No news that I'm aware of which is a shame really as the teasers and clips have been fantastic. I really hope there isn't a big international distribution delay the same way [REC]2 has end up in, that's not even out until July from what I hear.

will be avoiding the vomit gore trilogy. im all for torture porn and gross out films, but they need a plot and a bit of character development. there needs to be a reason these people are being harmed. and i either need to care about the people being hurt, or i need to want them to get hurt.

The plots are pretty vague until you watch the extra features and making of docs on both DVDs It doesn't help when dialogue is electronically filtered and slowed down, a pounding generator is the background noise and the editing is completely all over the place trying to capture a hallucinogenic nightmarish feel. The films aspire to be a cross between art-house and fetish porn with very extreme gore, but there's little replay or recommendable value in both movies when they are devoid of any structure.

I would recommend Martyrs, Frontiers and Embodiment of Evil if you're after extreme horror with good plots and character developments.

Re: Embodiment of Evil, been wondering about getting it. Might lend it from my friend who says its 'just ok.'

There's good Spanish horror that I have yet to see, I'm sure of it. I'd definetly recommend TESIS for one.

It's so hard to find good movies that also go to extreme lengths visually.

Spartan you ever see this one? Eureka is putting it out next month.

A forgotten gem from the legendary Hammer Studios, available for the first time on home video in the UK, this sinister classic spins a gruesome web of unhappy families. It is three weeks before the Ashby siblings Simon (Oliver Reed), a brutish alcoholic, and Eleanor (Janette Scott), a nervous wreck, are to come into their late parentsג€™ inheritance. While Simon plans to have his sister certified insane and locked away, Eleanor keeps seeing the lurking figure of their long-dead brother Tony around the estate. Who or what is this apparition, and does he threaten to reveal skeletons in the closet (and elsewhere)?

A massively entertaining horror treat in the best English Gothic tradition, Paranoiac features a superbly oily lead performance from a young Oliver Reed, stunning black & white Cinemascope photography, an ingenious script by Jimmy Sangster, and gripping direction by the great Freddie Francis.
Sounds fucking great.

It's really dope. Freddie Francis & Jimmy Sangster are always a safe bet for quality Hammer movies and of course the legend that is Oliver Reed. Will be coppin' Paranoiac in July.

That reminds me, I still need to cop the new Hammer R1 box set which is worth copping just for The Damned alone.

Anyone who has caught the Belgian chiller AMER at one of its festival screenings so far will tell you that it cries out to be seen on a big screen, and U.S. fans are going to get the chance this fall. Fango got the word on when and where the giallo homage will begin its Stateside theatrical release.

Distributor Olive Films gave us the scoop that AMER will open October 29 at New York Cityג€™s Cinema Village (22 East 12th Street), with bookings in other cities to follow. Written and directed by H

I could up a sort of 'best of giallo ost' that I made. It's great mood music.
