ive been listening to a weird mix of well known albums lately
The Beach Boys- Pet Sounds: This is an all time classic and it may be the most musically perfect album I've ever heard. It's crazy that one person created most of the music on this album, Brian Wilson is a genius.
Mastodon- Remission: As an admittedly huge Mastodon fan I must say that this record doesnt get the credit from fans that it deserves. For me this is their second best album(very close race with CTS) because their are no bad songs imo. This album is just brutal vintage Mastodon with Brann going nuts on the drums for 50 minutes.
Phillip Glass- Solo Piano: For anyone not familiar with his work, Phillip Glass is an amazing American composer and this album is just him on a piano. This is such a relaxing album, perfect for chilling and/or getting anything creative done.
Gojira- From Mars to Sirius: These guys have been called the french Mastodon and I can see the comparison a little bit. I went through a few stages with this album mostly because I have trouble getting into metal unless its amazing. At first I loved it then I thought it was kind of boring and now I love it again. Brutal is the best word to describe what makes this album great, just an overall brilliant metal record by a band who clearly gets it.

widely regarded as a classic by metalheads. kind of a bold statement that it doesnt get the credit that it deserves. in fact there has been more bitching that Mastodons current output doesnt resemble Remission. Just saying.Sir Loin wrote:Mastodon- Remission: As an admittedly huge Mastodon fan I must say that this record doesnt get the credit from fans that it deserves. Magnetic Men are Artwork, Benga (in sweater) and Skream. Katy B is the chick; she guests on one other track on the album. First vid - cowritten/prod. by Benga- charted in the UK, second is its b-side. No album yet.CRASH DDZ wrote:who is the chick ??? and the black guy in the sweater looks real familiar.Dee el Hugely wrote:

I always hear other Mastodon fans talking about Leviathan more than Remission and thats kind of what I was getting at. I know that Remission gets credit from the community at large for being a great album but in my experience with other fans they always talk about Lev or Blood Mountain. Maybe I've just met some fringe metal fans that have only heard their newer stuff.catfish hunter wrote:widely regarded as a classic by metalheads. kind of a bold statement that it doesnt get the credit that it deserves. in fact there has been more bitching that Mastodons current output doesnt resemble Remission. I dont know if I even have the patience to sit through Leviathan again. Remission has always been my go to album but I tend to be a bigger fan of the straightforward assault and less interested in the majestik proggy noodling so prevalent in metal today. With Mastodon that style works but I think they were at their finest when they were more bludgeoning early on.Sir Loin wrote:I always hear other Mastodon fans talking about Leviathan more than Remission and thats kind of what I was getting at. A compilation I put together using bands that uploaded their music to the site. This one has a lot of mellow and pop folk, but maybe you'll like a track or two.

big fan of the black heart procession which doesnt seem to get mentioned much anywhere even though they consistantly drop great stuff, 3mp is the band that bhp lead singer pall jenkins was in before doing bhp, very similar in style not quite as dark and gloomy as bhp, enjoying teh album very much
