Kurt Vile Thread
This dude's a Psych/Folk up-and-comer from Philly who just released this killer album-

Here's a link has 4 songs performed live-

He's already released a ton of material (something like 4 albums and 7 EPs), but it wasn't till the Square Shells EP he put out last year that I really got into his music, here's great song off that-

He doesn't have the strongest voice, but the lyrics are great as is the guitar work. If anyone knows more about his back catalog please add on.

Yeah, I'm a pretty big advocate of this guy's music. His first album, God is Saying This To You is probably my favorite. It's true that his voice isn't the strongest but I think he's remedied that on this album by having fuller backing on several songs. Lyrically he's dope but I've come to find out that several of his songs have the same lyrics or recycled refrains even across several albums.

This is the album of the year for me so far, no doubt.
The guitar work is simple but intricate and the lyrics are fucking GREAT. On Tour has some of the best lyrics I've heard in a while as does Peeping Tomboy.
I've also gotten a little more caught up on his back log, while I don't like his last album "Childish Prodigy" as much as the new one, it does contain the incredible Freak Train-

This guy's been getting radio play on 89.1 WNYU for at least 4-5 years now. I used to hear him on their new music show (airs 4-7 I think), which actually plays some good stuff here and there, though half the DJs sound like retarded zombies. They put me onto a few acts I still listen to. Never got into this guy's music so much but I'll give him another chance.

New vid for Baby's Arms, really love this song and the video's even better (girl's a dime-piece), guess it was all shot on a windows phone. I'm gonna see Vile live twice this month and I'm really looking forward to it.

This little doc is great too. Album sounds real promising, good to hear he's focused on big, epic songs. Real excited for this one and that new Youth Lagoon.

First heard this guy a few months ago. I've only listened to Smoke Ring so far, fucking great album, esp Baby's Arms. I can listen to that song forever. The dude's vocals totally reminds me of early Lou Reed.
Really digging that new track! Love the extra instrumentation going on. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to sit through a 9 minute song, now I'm thinking I wouldn't mind if it was longer lol. Can't fuckin wait for the album!

Re: Kurt Vile Thread
the repeated 'sometimes when i get in my zone/you'd think i was stoned/but i never, as they say, touch the stuff' on goldtone really cracks me up. could be goofy as shit but he pulls it off splendidly

Received my preorder in the mail yesterday, great album after one listen. Not as versatile as Smoke Ring, but more consistent and accomplished.

yeah it stays at a cool consistent tone for the majority of the time. makes the fuckery going on in shame chamber all the more enjoyable.

Thanks, I was looking for that. A little disappointed that it didn't come with the pre-order, but I knew I'd get it one way or another. He's selling autographed copies through Newbury comics I think.

Re: Kurt Vile Thread
this album needs more recognition. it's some of the freshest shit to come out in a long time, and stays fresh after countless listens (been spinning in my car for at least 3 months). One of the those albums where it's hard to pick a favorite song and your favorite song keeps changing because you pick up new bits you didn't hear before.
they need to create a new genre called "slacker folk" for this or something. he might be doing for folk music what stoner music did to rock back in the 1990s. Or maybe just reinstating and reinvigorating the lo-fi pop movement of the 90's? the ever-changing melodies and the fingerpicking dreamscapes and the punchy slithery guitar and complex instrumentation the disenchanted surreal lyrics and the infectious pop hooks and the overall free-wheeling and expansive yet completely detached vibe. wow. this is really impressive and exciting stuff from kv.
"girl called alex" and "air bud" are my favs right now

My album of the year at this point along with Serengeti's album 'Saal'. I saw him live once at Pitchfork in Chi a couple years back, but I can't wait to see him in a small venue here in Indy next month. Almost forgot about the concert after buying tickets months ago. His whole catalog is great though, I fux with Kurt Vile.
