The number one thing I want from Nas is a great new album. Yes, I want the Lost Tapes 2 to drop, but it doesn't have to be right now. He didn't say it is never going to come out, just not now- he wants to focus on the new album. In the rest of the interview, he goes on to talk about how he has been working with No ID a great deal for the new album, and that he wants it to be an album that can be rocked all the way through. He acknowledges what everyone else feels, that his albums have some great songs, but are also filled with songs that should have not been there and could have been replaced by other better songs. This is a promising mind frame. It remains to be seen as to whether this will come to fruition, but it sounds like he has the right idea.

He's gotta know that this is prob his last chance to make a classic album before people really give up on him. Distant Relatives was dope but that was not a solo album. He needs to deliver a solid total album. HHID was the closest he has done to that since Stillmatic, and even both of those are flawed at times. All his albums since IWW are flawed. He needs to drop another true 5 mic classic.

Not really, his place in hip-hop history isn't going to change. I'd like another classic, but I'm not holding my breath.

to no-one's surprise, Def Jam manage to fuck an encouraging project up again. Lost Tapes 2 will come, it'll just be another few years

btw, it'll be nowhere near as good as Lost Tapes 1, for very obvious reasons, so I'm not even really looking forward to it.

Anyone who is going to "give up" on Nas, already has.

Isn't this lost songs from like his last two albums and braveheart projects? Doesn't seem that interesting to me.

It only took 15 years for him to realise this. Maybe in another 15 he'll pull it off.

I finally gave up on Nas right around the time I heard 'Hero'

An 8th layer of hell is currently being constructed to house Lost Tapes 2, because the damned souls who inhabit the other 7 layers don't want to have to mingle with the songs which didn't make the cut on Street's Disciple, Hip Hop Is Dead and Untitled.

The original version of the title track on Streets Disciple was only ever on white label from what I remember. That could do with a proper release. I think 'Good Morning' (that track with the Isley Brothers sample) was from round that period aswell and that was nice

An AZ & Styles P album would be far preferable.

the songs which didn't make the cut on Street's Disciple
good morning
serious
talk of NY

tracks that get cut are often better than ones that don't

anyways, columbia has the rights to these and everything before right? Why don't they release their own lost tapes 2
1. Nas
2. Drake

that's pretty much it fam.

Serious wasn't for Street's Disciple. It was an AZ song intended for A.W.O.L that came out as a single and everything which Nas then wouldn't him use on the album because AZ was briefing considering signing with Dipset. This is why Nas and AZ have never recorded together since.

It's appeared on about 2 AZ odds & sods albums since then so it wont be anywhere near any Nas Lost Tapes album.

because it would generate that much profit and would promote a rival label's artist

they should do a digital release tho

Which is odd considering he had one of last year's best albums :/

didn't know that about serious, i assumed it was a nas project cause salaam remi did it. well i'm assuming salaam remi, because he samples from the same bongo band album as on made you look & theif's theme.

i stick to my point though: the problem with nas albums is the quality control of what makes the final cut. post god's son nas hasn't had a really consistent solo, but the tracks that get cut are sometimes more interesting, eg "fear of mandingo" (no black dick lover)

yo req, not sure i buy that explication. lost tapes 2 appeals to nas stans like us, not people about to get into nas. it would be more of a cash-in on his name than a project to promote it.

Yeah but is it really worth their time to make a CD pressing with such a limited consumer base? Are they gonna see much profit from that? That's why i suggested digital. Unless they use it to promote his back catalog with them or something. What if Nas has a solo album coming out 3 months after, it look like they just gave free promo for it when he's not even signed to them.

Nas should just put that shit out online. Drop a track a week Good Friday style. It'd keep his name out there for a few months until he comes up with another project where the concept overshadows the lucklustre music.

There's only one problem. That would actually make sense.
