The Savage Elegance of "Pull Ya Hawks Out!"
This is a celebration of what was and remains one of the finest pieces of music to emerge from the extension of the Dip Set brand past Lennox Ave and into the grimiest corridors of shitty ass cities like Syracuse and Cleveland. Tall tees, pink wave caps and American flag imagery dominated the landscape in most crack spots, bodegas and 18+ night clubs from Omaha to Rochester.
2005 saw the release of the third volume of the Triple Threat mixtape series. The Senate, Dip Set and Taliban (Purple City) all joined forces to rattle the trunks of 98 Acuras with faded purple tint everywhere. The first track was "Pull Ya Hawks Out!". Taj Mahal and Hectic straight up crushed a monstrous banger from producer VooDoo with forceful lyrics advocating the use of knives in both club and prison altercations. While gun talk has gone stale with overuse, the imagery of slicing someone up in public is still a bit jarring and Taj's passionate eloquence puts it on full display here. Hectic never really did too much to separate himself within the crew ("Crunk Boy" is great as fuck though), but he gleams like blood on the end of a box cutter here. Whoever wrote this chorus and came up with the idea of the Hawk Call needs to be honored. Shit is devastatingly dope.

There is a remix featuring Un Kasa out there, but haven't been able to track down an .mp3.
And while on the topic of Triple Threat 3, "Yall Aint Gangsta" is overwhelmingly ill.
Shouts to The Martorialist for celebrating the era here:

Take this opportunity to reflect on the last dayz of full-on NYC rap relevance.

Word. Its on The Best Of The Senate tape, but I can only find an active link on Datpiff, and that song isnt in the zip.ackbar wrote:i can look for the un kasa remix. i basically had everything related to dipset from that era
the posse on broadway remake was always my fave senate song
"45th and Broadway" is one of the best Dip jammies ever period.
I always liked this song too... I got the remix with Un Kasa in perfect quality off of iTunes from this release:
Matter fact, they got all the classic Purple City mixtapes on iTunes/Amazon/Rhapsody, etc., even the rare old ones like PCP Vol. 1 and PCP Vol. 2.... I was shocked... I guess Shiest Bub is a hustler:
My iPod is at work, I'll try to upload the Un Kasa remix when I get there tomorrow... What's the easiest way to extract a song from my iPod to put it as an MP3 and upload it?
There's some bangers on these mixtapes for sure though....

I’ve been getting back into these tapes as of late. So much greatness from this era.

Some of those mixtape cover designs are insane! I used to work at a mixtape store on 125th St in West Harlem in the late 90's/early 2000's and don't remember any being so cartoonish.
Thanks for the flashback, Dipset definitely brought about a unique energy from NYC and beyond during their run. I miss the slang and fashion of the time, dudes rocking platinum, throwback jerseys and oversized caps to match while using words like piff and guap. I remember running into Un Kasa once at Fulton Mall in Downtown Brooklyn around this time, very short guy.
