Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
Kinda curious what the curmudgeons of rap yesteryear think about a site like that.
Dry Snitching or cool resource?

i use it. sometime find a sample I like and get down to chopping it up and it sounds familiar. Will check there in that case.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
Every now and then I'll hear a sample I think recognize and use WS to verify it. It's kinda lacking when you're looking for samples you don't recognize though.
I'm sure that dude from cunninglinguists hates it.
On the topic of samples, anyone know what that "aye/mine" sample that's been on every trap track for the last two years is from? EG 3 seconds into this

Yeah I think WS should do more to be a resource for artists as well.Kony Montana wrote: I'm sure that dude from cunninglinguists hates it.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
It's great for identifying lead samples, but smaller shit like one-off hits and short drum breaks that I know and just can't place aren't listed as commonly. Not the sites fault, I'm just kinda OCD about little things like that when I can't remember where they come from.iCONtheMicKing wrote:What you mean by that?Kony Montana wrote:It's kinda lacking when you're looking for samples you don't recognize though.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
i know they were happy with a find the other day, because they posted it on facebook. it seems that the intro on Michael Jackson's "Beat It" might have actually been a sample of a Synclaiver demo 12" http://www.whosampled.com/sample/220453 ... -Untitled/

Just found out the Dont Trust Anyone/Chronic 2001 skit was a Diamonds Are Forever sample. Even a casual enthusiast like me gets regular use out of it.
Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
I never use it to find samples that I'll then use, but I sometimes use it to see if a song I'm thinking about sampling has been used before.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
I'm on the cool resource end of that spectrum, but theyve made some interface changes in the past six months or so that Im still getting used to. For example, when Im looking to find out if someone sampled something, Im not looking for covers of that song. They did something recently that makes a bit more difficult to filter stuff like that in your searches.iCONtheMicKing wrote:Dry Snitching or cool resource?
Overall though, Im a fan.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
My one big beef is that the organization is pretty messy, and browsing through discographies is a nightmare.
I don't sample stuff a lot these days, but I don't think I would search for a sample I liked to see if anyone else has used it. If it isn't at all recognizable to me I don't really care who's done what with it before

I'm a huge fan, was a fan of the-breaks before and the french one too
I understand why producers get mad about sites like this, but their existence is inevitable.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
certain artists pages are protected and can't be updated.
for example, rjd2s page lists almost none of the samples from his solo albums but its not like
these samples aren't known.. most are listed on his wiki page..
obviously he struck some kind of agreement with whosampled

sometimes when i'm searching for something in google, their site comes up first and i end up using their source for some validity of what i was looking for.

People that get mad about this site are the same people that still want you to think pro wrestling is real.

Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
i remember when hiphopsite.com was running the message boards for sites like rjd2site.com and mfdoomsite.com also. as in they were their official message boards, but the code crossed over onto the other sites. if you typed in artists that rjd2 sampled in a post, it would change the name to something else. something happened along the lines of people making a thread about elliott smith on mf doom's forum and anytime someone wrote "elliott smith" the name would change because it was coded for rjd2's site.
Re: Anybody use WhoSampled.com?
whosampled.com made me hate hip hop. i prefer not knowing that a producer blatantly ripped off an existing albeit dated song. Some talented producers do justice to the earlier works but most? Nah. I absolutely hate the obvious ones, where all the producer did is add in a couple of drums and snares and called it quits.
i swear by the no samples mantra and my mans tyler the creator is on the vanguard of this entire movement. fuck a sample. real talk.
