do rap soundtracks even exist anymore? they were basically glorified label samplerst. Cant imagine they'd have much use these days.

Re: Best OST of this decade
the Dope soundtrack was pretty good but like half of it is 90s classics

I don't think rap heavy OSTs exist anymore in the same way they did in the 90s and early 00s. Maybe because they don't really make the kinds of movies that would have these soundtracks anymore.

Re: Best OST of this decade
High School High, Soul In The Hole, Menace To Society, Rhyme & Reason and Juice all come to mind for all-time.
Has there been a hip-hop influenced soundtrack this decade?

The Wackness soundtrack was cool but basically just 'More Music From 8 Mile pt 2'

As for all time/90s - Poetic Justice is one of the better ones and rarely gets mentioned. And New Jersey Drive.

Re: Best OST of this decade
Was anybody else surprised by how little actual rap was on the Luke Cage ost, considering how much hype and promotion they put into marketing the show via Meth and Ali Shaheed's involvement? There are plenty of references to rap, but maybe like 5 rap songs total used in 13 hours of footage, if that, and at least one was made specifically for the show.

Luke Cage didn't have too many scenes that warranted rap imo. I mean u can't play bring the ruckus every time he goes Hulk on em
That one dude that did the spoken word rap in the suit was good but I feel bad for liking it

Re: Best OST of this decade
Anyone ever made a compilation of all the Outkast songs from soundtracks? They seem to be the soundtrack G.O.A.T.s.
Check out my FREE album featuring MAC LETHAL, ALASKA from HANGAR 18, HOMEBOY SANDMAN and J57 of the BROWN BAG ALL STARS -

Re: Best OST of this decade
That's not a best of OST exclusives, that's just a list.
Couple of those songs later ended up on albums.
Plus you forgot neck uv da woodz.
How about 2Pac "Pain"? Cassette only OST exclusive.
Was Prodigy's "Don't Be A Follower" an OST exclusive? I always loved that beat.
What I would givefor the Krush Groove version of Desperado. All the demo versions online have a less interesting beat.

IDAL made it a more realistic thread as there have clearly been no bangers in the last 6 years.
Benz or Beamers is my favorite song of all time, although it blew out an expensive sub in my car way back. It also came out on the Cell Therapy single fwiw

Only on Best Of anthologies/B-sides & rarities compilations years after their release, so all songs in teh list qualify as OST exclusives.sleazy_j wrote:That's not a best of OST exclusives, that's just a list.

Neck Uv Da Woodz, on the other hand, doesn't qualify because it was on Mystikal's Let's Get Ready album in 2000.
Pain is a great call tho. Ditto Uptown Anthem.

Actually, disqualify Goin' Back To Cali since I see it was included on the CD of LL's 3rd album.

Re: Best OST of this decade
My favorite OST-only song is either this or Big Pimpin by DPG.
So many versions of this song but this is the tightest by far
I thought this was from an OST but actually its from some compilations, otherwise it would win it for me. 40 kills it "why is yo slang so illiterate?"
The mid90s deathrow soundtracks are the best rap-soundtracks IMO

Re: Best OST of this decade
Atlanta has a good and diverse modern rap OST. I don't think it has exclusive tracks but as far as just being a survey of what's out there today and using that in a way that benefits the show stylistically but still feels natural, they're doing a pretty good job.
