New trailer was kinda underwhelming for me.

In other IF news apparently Rza is directing an ep.

Still don't love him in the role but the fights look good and I'm hyped for the old lady to fuck shit up from behind the scenes.

Ya so Logan really was pretty much everything it was promised to be - grim as hell, the Unforgiven of superhero movies, bucking most modern comic/superhero franchise movie tropes, etc.
Ironically, even with all that trend contrarity, my main (and pretty much only) gripe so far was weak-ish villains, which is a problem with nearly every Marvel and Xmen movie. Hollbrook does his best and his effort goes a long way to make Pierce menacing, but the character is not very well defined, he's just a good realization of a standard Head Goon. The rest of the reavers are nondescript too, just fulfilling the generic requirement for a squad of bad guys without any real presence or personality. Richard Grant is mostly wasted as Zander Rice, he also feels pretty generic and lacking in tangible motivation. Ultimately it feels like Logan is fighting against middle managers, like there might be somebody behind the scenes masterminding all this who's never shown. In this regard the movie's austerity might be working against it, maybe showing just a hint of something larger could've made the stakes feel higher.

Granted, the external good guys vs bad guys conflict is mostly there to provide framing for the internal conflicts of the lead characters and in that regard this movie is fucking spectacular, so any deficiencies in the former aren't that big of an issue.

Iron Fist is getting slaughtered in the reviews, apparently even the fights are bad and there aren't that many. I thought what the trailer showed was decent, but I also saw the Colleen Wing cage match clip they released a while back and yea.... it's pretty bad

I'm not familiar with the Wolverine character and have never enjoyed a Marvel film, but Logan was almost everything I want from a cinema experience. It felt like I was watching Terminator 2 for the first time or something kind of like that. I was worried that the two other mutant characters would drag the film down but fortunately their screentime is limited.

Logan is selling an insane amount of tickets from what I have understood. If the big studios are encouraged to start making badass, r-rated actionfilms then I would be happy to go to the cinema all the time.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

spoilers.
yeah good stuff here. easily best xmen movie by a longshot. a movie about dude who slaughters everyone and actually gets to slaughter everyone. that's what this is about. it was weird that it took this shit this long to get there. since these movies have been happening for like 20 yrs now at this point. Jackman Stewart combo is great for what it is here.

there were some great aesthetic choices but really it must be noted that it feels like a bunch of this was ripped from the video game The Last of Us. still a good take on the subject. except the last shot. which is like fuck outta here. and I don't know if I can deal.

Gives a lot away, but the new trailer is still dope, regardless. Not a big fan of Vulture's suit, though.

meh I guess

I never loved Spider Man to begin with and having a 3rd reboot in like 15years just for the purposes of expanding the already bloated MCU is not doing much for me

Sick of seeing Downey in these too

So it was far from perfect, but I really liked Iron Fist. I am biased, as a big fan of the comic, but I really enjoyed it. I thought the casting was pretty dead on. Definitely better than Jessica Jones and totally undeserving of the hate.

^^^Iron Fist was a rough watch for me. More rough than the back half of Luke Cage. And I say this as a pretty big fan of the character in general. I could have forgotten about most of the controversy regarding the show if only it didn't feel so thrown together and rushed.

I am REALLY hoping they give Danny a great character arc in Defenders and really do some major course correcting in season 2. A lot is salvageable, but they really made a dud with season 1 in my opinion. It was rushed (which makes absolutely NO sense since they arguably had the longest time to prepare it) and it showed.

just saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

IT'S FUCKING GREAT.

I thought it would be a commercialized slide into obvious and over-blown mediocrity... but it really justifies its own existence well, and expands the mythology of the Guardians quite shockingly decently.

Visually, HOLY FUCK. Every single shot is pretty much a psychedelic masterpiece, a visual ode to some dystopian dreamland, or an art deco sculpture with fantabulous humanoids exchanging dialogue inside of it.

And it's much more emotional than I expected... damn my IMAX theater was dusty and smoky, I got all this soot and stuff in my eyes

it's not as stupid as the commercials make it look... but a few times, they really choreograph the comedy and shit and you will want to groan... but it's still a fucking great movie actually

5 post-credits scenes, structured very creatively within the credits. Marvel actually owns Hollywood now, and has movie-making down to a SCIENTIFIC FORMULA.

the soundtrack to this movie is fucking solid, word to Sam Cooke
You're in Heaven right now, God.
Create the universe you dream of.

Guardians was a cool 45 mins longer than it needed to be but I mostly loved it. Everything to do with the Guardians themselves was great, good character development continuing from the first movie and both the jokes and the serious moments landed imo. I could've done without the space pirate crisis of leadership, I get what they were going for with Yondu vs Ego and it works but could've been way more streamlined. Probably could've written this with much less golden people stuff too. A movie doesn't really need two climaxes back to back.
