Nature - For All Seasons ADVANCE (a re-creation)

Post by djfilthyrich »

Nature was a dope MC who in my opinion didn't get the shine that he deserved. After hearing his standout verses on The Firm album and mixtape tracks, I was pretty amped for his debut. When the retail version came out, I was a little disappointed....don't get me wrong, it was still pretty dope, but it could've been so much better if he left off tracks like 'We Ain't Friends', 'Go Ahead', 'I Don't Give A Fuck' etc, and included certain tracks that were on the advance, as well as some of his mixtape cuts.

This was the tracklist of the retail version:

Image

Intro
Mans World
We Ain't Friends
Shit Like This
The Ultimate High
Young Love
Go Ahead
Natures Shine
Smoke
Remember
Talking That Shit
I Don't Give A Fuck
Don't Stop

Here's the tracklist of the Advance:
https://www.discogs.com/Nature-For-All- ... se/8488857" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(self-made cover)
Image

01. You Ain't Never Heard Shit Like This (name shortened to 'Shit Like This' on the retail)
02. Natures Shine (appears on the retail)
03. Smoke (appears on the retail)
04. Young Love (appears on the retail)
05. Fire (I think this is the same track that appeared on the QB's Finest comp)
06. All Out (never officially released, but appeared on some mixtapes)
07. Biddin' It (In Jail) (never officially released, but appeared on some mixtapes)
08. Man's World (appears on the retail)
09. Don't Stop (appears on the retail)
10. Roots (never leaked, as far as I know)
11. Remember (appears on the retail)
12. Triple Threat (never officially released, but appeared on white labels & mixtapes)

I remember seeing a guy on some hip hop forum a while back claiming that he owned it, and posted this pic:
Image

People tried asking him to post it, but no luck. The tracklisting corresponds to the one above which I believe is real, because DJ Rhude (former XXL magazine editor who brought us 'The Found Tapes' series) clicked 'Have' on Discogs. Maybe one day we'll be lucky enough that some kind soul (or DJ Rhude himself) will eventually bless the masses with a link. Until then, I thought I'd post up a re-created version that I put together from the best available sources I could find.

Here's what I was able to gather:

Shit Like This
Natures Shine
Smoke
Young Love
Fire [got it from QB's Finest comp]
All Out [tagged J-Grand mixtape rip - ripped from Youtube]
Biddin' It (In Jail) [tagged Big Mike mixtape rip from 'The Nature Files' bootleg]
Man's World
Don't Stop
Remember
Triple Threat [got it from Nature's 'Queens Classics' album]

So even though we don't have every track in CDQ, at least we're now able to hear everything except 'Roots'. I'm also going off the assumption that 'Fire' from the advance had the same beat as the one that appeared on QB's Finest.
I figured there might be a lot of people out there who would wanna check this, so I decided to put this together. I was hoping that with a group effort, we might be able to improve this.
If anybody out there is reading this and can upload the real advance in this thread, it'd be much appreciated. This music deserves to finally be heard in CDQ. Or if anybody can help us upgrade any of the non-CDQ tracks, that'd be appreciated too. It'd be especially dope to finally hear a NO DJ CDQ of "Biddin It (In Jail)" recorded at the proper speed.

Here's the download link:
These are some of the mixtape cuts I wish were included. If anybody has these in CDQ or on vinyl, please help us out and upload them here:

If anybody has either of these 2 promo vinyls (or digital rips of them), please let me know :
"Friend Of Ours" b/w "Hot Nights"
"Murder 4 Hire" b/w "Shit Like This"

What would be your final tracklisting?

Loved Nature back then. If he would have been able to come out in 98 he would have blown up a bit, especially after the Firm and his verse on Banned From TV. I'm sure it was label politics and perhaps Nas that ended up keeping him on the shelf when he was set to blow, and by the time the album did drop 2 years later any buzz he had was gone. I always liked his record, but thought it could have been better. Your tracklist seems about right to me.

Not many songs are that elusive at this point, but I have looked far and wide for Biddin It without any drops and could never find it.

That could very well have been the case. I agree....he should've struck while the iron was hot.
Hopefully someone will bless us with Biddin It, and some of the ones in the YouTube videos I posted above.
In the spirit of our Firm project, drop a tracklist of your ideal Nature album when you have a minute

I had Take It Off on this Crib Underground 12". I got rid of it recently unfortunately

https://www.discogs.com/Various-Untitle ... se/3725044" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's Magic & Bird - think its a vinyl rip I copped of a blog years ago - not sure if its better than the one above
http://www42.zippyshare.com/v/dULFa3z3/file.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's a short Nature freestyle over Jay Z's So Ghetto beat from Doo Wop's Gangstas Paradise mixtape
http://www57.zippyshare.com/v/Ej2LmKxx/file.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
this is the same lyrics as the 'You Had To Go' joint you sent me recently Rich

there's a also a few other things you could throw in like
In Too Deep w/ Nas
Blood Money pt 2 w/CNN
To My Advantage w/Pete Rock
Exclusive New Shit (off DJ Clue 'The Professional')

I speak to DJ Rhude occasionally on twitter. I'll see if he's down to share that promo copy.

That advance in the OP looks incredible. Never seen that before. It has all the tracks from the actual promo tape ( https://www.discogs.com/Nas-Nature-Exce ... se/5135239" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) as well.

I remember back in like 2001, I was going to put together a best of Nature with all the songs I knew about, I never actually put it together, but I did manage to save the tracklist I put together for it after all of these years:

Disc 1

1. The Foulness-Part 2 (W/ Nas) 1:42
2. They Just Don't Know (W/ Madd Rapper & Black Rob) 4:22
3. What Ya'll Wanna Do (W/ Franchise) 3:47
4. Doin' It (W/ Ali Vegas) 2:35
5. DJ Whoo Kid & Stretch Armstrong Freestyle 1:08
6. Friend Of Ours (W/ E Money Bags & Kool G. Rap) 3:18
7. If I Ain't A Thug 3:17
8. Jungle Music 4:41
9. DJ Clue Freestyle-Part 1 1:32

12. Show Business 2:58
13. Going All Out 3:06
14. Hot Nights (W/ Prodigy of Mobb Deep) 3:53
15. Take It Off 3:47
16. The Blocks (W/ Screwball) 3:55
17. 25 To Life (W/ Xzibit, Juvenile, Ja Rule & Reptile) 4:03
This thread also reminds me of the old Best of Half-a-mill & Nature bootleg I saw on hiphopcloset.com in 2000 or 2001. I always wanted to see what tracks were on there.

"Biddin it" was on DJ Clue - The Great Ones Pt.2. I don't have a good CD rip of that, but I did rip "If I Ain't a Thug" from the DJ Clue - The Ruler's Back CD in FLAC:

Code: Select all

https://www.sendspace.com/file/keutwg
Edit: I'd also like to add that years back, I had a talk with NatureAppreciator on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/user/NatureAppreciator/videos" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) about this and he said his tracklist would be the following:
NatureAppreciator wrote:

01 Jungle Music
02 Ultimate High(Feat Nas)
03 Mans World
04 Young Love
05 Murder 4 Hire
06 Magic N Bird(Feat Noreaga)
07 Biddin It
08 Shit Like This
09 If I Aint A Thug
10 We Aint Friends(Original Version, different beat)
11 Remember
12 I Dont Give A Fuck
13 Fist Full Of Dollars(Feat Dr Dre)
14 Black Showbiz
15 Friend Of Ours(Feat E Money Bags & Kool G Rap)
16 Dont Stop
17 Hot Nights(Feat Prodigy)

Something like that is what I always pictured.....there's a few very rare Nature vinyls I've been trying to track down for a long time from 1998 early 99, one with Friend Of Ours/Hot Nights on it from 98...another one with Murder 4 Hire/Shit Like This...Columbia really jerked him big time. Triple Threat probably would of made it on there too, so many possibilities.

Thanks for the rips, Step. Do you remember how the sound quality was on the Crib Underground?
I have it on a whitelabel somewhere, but I remember the quality wasn't that great. I'll dig it out, record it, and post it up in this thread

Yeah, those are definitely some of his greatest hits. I'm actually working on creating an explicit version of 'Exclusive New Shit' by re-reversing the curses. I'll post it up in this thread once I'm done

That would be amazing, Step. If you could do that, this will be the thread of the year!
I'm going to try and tweet to Nature, and see if anything comes of it.

I never knew about those promo 12"s for Friend Of Ours/Hot Nights or Murder 4 Hire/Shit Like This. Nothing on Discogs about them, nor can I find anything on Google. Would love to get my hands on them.
I sent NatureAppreciator a PM....gonna see if he can share any tracks , as well as if he'd like to participate in this thread.

I have some more tracks and custom edits that I'm going to upload in this thread, so stay tuned....

Yeah, I have the 12" with Queenstyle on the A-side. I ripped the Friend Of Ours and had posted it back in The Firm thread. I would only wanna get ahold of the previously mentioned 12" for the track 'Hot Nights'. I tried searching for it too...probably one of those tracks he only gave to a few DJ's to put on their mixtapes.

Never heard that 'How Cool' joint until you mentioned it....E Moneybags uses the same verse as the one on 'Friend Of Ours' . Is the 'You Ain't Never Heard Shit Like This' from the promo you have the same version as the one that made it to the retail album?

I never made it, but I did make my own For All Seasons version. Not really tracks that were even meant for the album, just my favorite stuff from him around that time (was making a Half-a-mill as well, so the features with him would be on that).

Image

I uploaded it in case you want to quality check any of the rips. They are all old rips, some even 128k, 192k they are so old. But stuff like "Hot Nights" and "Biddin It" are the actual original mixtape rips. "Top of Queensbridge" are his two DJ Clue Freestyles (Holiday Hold Up 96 & Show Me the Money pt 1) and "The Foulness" is The Foulness 3 & 4 together. Not the best quality in the world, but a lot of this old stuff can't be found in any better quality.

Thanks for the upload. The rips of Biddin It and Hot Nights were better than what I could find online. Your tracklist looks pretty good too...imagine if we had all those joints in CDQ/No DJ

I tweeted Nature last night to confirm if that Advance in the picture was real, also with the intent of getting a conversation started.
He replied "Idk", and then retweeted my tweet (which I'm assuming means that the advance tracklist is real, but he wasn't sure if the actual advance in the picture was authentic [?]....I replied back....waiting for a response....will update if I hear anything).
Kind of cool that we're in touch with Nate....feeling optimistic that between him and DJ Rhude, we might be able to track some of these elusive tracks down.

Is Mike Nice still kicking around this forum? I wonder if he would have any tracks that we could add to this collection, or upgrade the quality of the existing songs.

It'd be cool to ask him background info about these tracks, although I'm not sure he has better quality for some reason. Here is his soundclick from years ago (mobile link): http://www.soundclick.com/mobile/defaul ... ndid=62698" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

His descriptions on those tracks always led me to believe that even he didn't have them

Also Nature released this last year: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/queen ... 1122758735" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with a lot of these tracks but I'm not sure if some are better quality or remastered or what. Tracks like "Summer Cookout" have DJ shouts edited out

Thanks for the info, itzmurda. I came across that Soundclick page too a while back, but couldn't remember what the site was called when I was making this thread.....here's the desktop webpage link:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... rentPage=1#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yeah, I have a feeling he might not have a bunch of his tracks. Especially after he released that Queens Classics album last year.....I was amped when I saw the tracklist, but then I heard the horrible audio quality, and the tracks with DJ tags all over them. Might as well have been a web bootleg.

That soundclick page is not actually run by Nature....There's actually a disclaimer on one of the pages that says this. A guy who uses the handle dazdillinger is the guy uploading those tracks, which explains why the descriptions sound like they do (Nature wouldn't refer to himself in the 3rd person on some of those blurbs).
I'm not even convinced Nature sees any of the proceeds.
I noticed that they were selling a version of 'Exclusive New Shit' with no DJ Clue tags....I also wonder if it's Explicit too, because for some weird reason Clue censored it on his album. I tried to buy the track, but the page doesn't seem to let me pay when I clicked on the PayPal link. Not sure if it's permanently malfunctioning, or if it's just my computer. If anybody is able to purchase anything from that page, please let me know.

If I remember right, I'm sure there's a promo version of the First Clue album with no shout outs . Not sure if that track would be uncensored on there.

Oh really? I'll try looking for it. If anybody else is able to find it, hit us up. Even if it's not explicit, it'd still be a win to have it with no Clue yelling over it. On 2nd thought, that promo version of the Clue album is probably where dazdillinger got the track for the Soundclick page.

Step....how was the quality of "Take It Off" on the Crib Underground bootleg?

Also, can you confirm if "You Ain't Never Heard Shit Like This" on the Trackmasters 12" you have is the same as the retail version of "Shit Like This" ?

I'll have to check but pretty sure it's the same.

Don't remember Take It On being particularly bad quality. Probably about as good as you'd expect from a late 90s CU pressing .

I wasn't able to buy it either, but I did download the version from their player. Kinda low bitrate, but sounds decent. Has some odd pops and clicks. And appears to be a clean version.

I wasn't even able to listen to anything on the Soundclick player, so big thanks for grabbin this DD! At least you confirmed that it's not the explicit. Cool to be able to hear this with no tags. I'm actually working on creating an explicit mix of the version that appeared on the Clue album by re-reversing the curses.....so if the sound quality of the one you posted and the one I'm making are comparable, I can splice out Clue. That should do until we get a HQ version of this rip. I'm pretty sure Step One is right about there being a 'no tag' promo version of The Professional (or at least some select tracks from it). That must be where this version came from

Man, you guys and this board are the best. I don't have time to read many boards these days so I just come here. But it's great to have a board to discuss Hip Hop as adults and share our ideas and in many of your guys cases songs and mixes. I really don't have time or sanity for all the bullshit on the internet. I actually recently deactivated my FB account because the negativity about every damn thing (mostly due to this moron this country elected) is just too much. So nice to come here and out of the blue, bam, let's talk about Nature! haha amazing. love this shit. I have two folders of tracks that I literally downloaded from Napster (maybe some soulseek) in the early 2000's that I am going to up just for the fuck of it. Mad DJ drops on certain songs and stuff but I just want to contribute to this shit.

Side note, an associate of mine (and good friend of my boy) throws a brunch in Jackson Heights every Sunday at a spot called La Gloria. Butch Rock is the DJ who fucks with NORE. Anway, Nature was there chillin a couple of months back. If the opportunity presents itself, I'll try to make contact. I'll try to upload these folders ASAP.
