So most of us probably know about Spectrum City's Lies/Check Out the Radio single from 1984. However, recently, a few acetate recordings by Spectrum (the original name of the crew, pre-Spectrum City) appeared on Soundcloud. Here they are:

And here's a write-up I did: https://www.longislandrap.com/2019/01/s ... t-500.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
These are straight-up funk with some very early hip-hop vocals in the mix (on Funky Revolution), so don't expect much in terms of rapping or anything close to Public Enemy, but they're definitely worth checking out if only for the history. I don't have an exact date for them, but I suspect they're probably from 1982.

Re: Spectrum (pre-Public Enemy) NBC/Funky Revolution acetate
If you're mostly into older stuff, I'll admit I haven't provided as much stuff lately as I used to. This is a result of my doing less posts in general, getting new stuff submitted more regulatlary, and running out of noteworthy older stuff to post. That said, Rakim week is next week so that might have something worth checking out. I've also been sitting on some other PE rarities I'll get to eventually. Appreciate your interest!
