Classic track. One of the best (and hardest) beats Nas has rhymed on. The original was on the Bad Boy Volume 3 mixtape and had Cormega & Kamikaze on it.

Robbie @ Unkut breaks down the story behind the 3 versions here:

Nas freestyle 1994

Nas on Westwood's Capital Rap Show around the time Illmatic was about to drop. This is basically the 'Memory Lane' lyrics over 'Ikes Mood' with what sounds like some proper off the head rhymes at the end. nas - capital rap show freestyle.mp3 - 2.40MB (If anyone has a copy of the whole show from that...

its worth noting that a lot of artists could get a similar line up of producers but for reasons known only to themselves, wont.

dudes alright. Watch How It Go Down and the remix both still get plays over here. He held hs own on that Stop Look And Listen joint of Statik Selektah's album aswell. Id rather listen to him than Saigon, Tru Life, Papoose or most of the other New New York lot that have yet to put out an album. Oh, a...

he had a track called 'Raw' with Saigon and Inspectah Deck a couple of years back that wasnt bad. havent heard anything else tho. didnt know about UM's name change. seems like a waste of 2 years building a buzz. Has it just occured to him that MTV & retail might not support an artist with that name?...

I'll appreciate Hip Hop about any topic provided the rapper approaches it with a creative wordplay, a good flow or tries to put a different angle on it. I've got no problem with gangsta/hood/crack rap at all but most of the artists coming out right now arent doing much that hasnt already been done b...

- Does he feel like its almost a waste of time putting in effort to come with nice lyrics given that the standard of rhyming is so low right now? - Is Starkim (sp?) dropping anything anytime soon (that Sirius freestyle he dropped over Obies 'The Set Up' is fire!) - Does he get fed up with people ask...

there was a repress of Born To Roll a couple of years back that had Saturday Night Live on the flip. Delicious Vinyl credited it as a DJ Premier remix. No one seems to know why. I did hear it might be because he did the cuts on the track but Im not sure how true that is. Given that it says 'previous...
