Re: True Detective (HBO)

Thought it was awful. Most of the momentum in plot development they had from last week was undercut. Any tension they had in the opening standoff was diffused by cutting away from it for no other reason then to check in with the other cliffhanger... which also landed with little effect. Vince havin...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

Dare I say that it was a good episode? A couple really interesting/odd choices here: 1)Cutting from the Vaughn/Farrel scene right in the middle of it by quick cutting to the photos being taken of the other crime scene as if to trick us into thinking they were gunshots. You knew then that they weren'...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

We can only hope that the season finishes on an up note and has better writing/acting next season. i haven't seen any announcements that a 3rd season is even happening. have you? They did so well with the first season that I find it difficult to believe they'd abandon the show after one subpar seas...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

Same ol' same ol'. Farrell still getting more interesting, especially since he killed the wrong guy. Kitsch is a worthless piece of shit, and McAdam's character is underutilized. But yeah, they just laid out most of what's going on with three episodes to go. We can only hope that the season finishes...

Benteke to Liverpool is a great get, it will be really interesting to see him with some solid midfielders feeding him.

Re: Jurassic World (2015)

This was okay, glad I didn't pay $15 to see it. The first third of the movie could have been completely cut except for a couple scenes. Waiting until the half hour mark before we even see the big dino is ridiculous, they needed to ramp up the action, we've seen all of this before. Wasn't really sur...

The Fantastic Four movie looks absolutely atrocious, and this is the best trailer they've released. It's going to be the typical origin flick, and I pretty much hate everyone except Teller.

Re: True Detective (HBO)

It's getting better, but at the midpoint through the season more should have happened. The cops still don't know shit about shit. The showrunners are working hard to give you something cool at the end of episodes to help you forget how mediocre everything else is. Going "Heat" at the end of this epi...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

Funny, I thought the show took a step in the right direction tonight. This despite the fact that Farrell should be dead. The dream sequence at the beginning WAS fucking awful though. Elvis impersonator? Really? Good to see Fred Ward, I appreciate what he brings to the table. I liked that it was just...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

Haven't seen the spoilers, but if Farrell lives after a point blank shotgun blast regardless of payload it's absurd. I suppose they could focus on his back story more, but who cares really?

Re: True Detective (HBO)

1 down, 2 to go. These detectives are so unlikeable I'm rooting for the bad guys. Farrell is such an average actor, and I've discovered a burning hatred for Kitsch I never knew existed. Vaughn continues to be the best part of this show which is a bad sign. That monologue of his at the beginning of t...

Re: True Detective (HBO)

Decent first episode, but it's going to take another episode for me to feel fully at ease. This seems like it's going to be much more straight forward than last season which could be problematic because they could easily fall into the gritty cop show tropes (drunk cop has to pull himself/herself tog...

No way they're not bringing Snow back. Witch bitch in the house means it's zombie time. She'll bring him back then milk him so she can have her bastard son. Were those Dothraki that surrounded Daenerys? With Stannis gone there aren't many people left gunning for that throne. Kind of crazy the king j...

Re: Mad Men: the final episodes

Finally caught up. I thought it was a decent ending, but didn't blow me away. I don't envy writers when they have to come up with an ending to a show like this. Do you wrap everything up or leave it open ended? They opted for the former. Honestly, I felt they could have gone either way with the stor...

Re: Official European Football 2014-15 Regular Season Thread

Sterling would seem to be too young a player to be successful abroad. He's too brash, and I felt like every time I watch him play he's whining or sulking about something. I thought Can was very good for Liverpool despite playing out of position, and Ibe clearly has promise. They need a striker in th...

Adios to that 50 pounds, it's a shame Newcastle managed to stay up. Good for Pardew though, I think it shows how well he did with the shit he had. Arsenal deserved a trophy after the season they had, they were definitely the second best team during the second half of the season. Spurs did as well as...

Re: Ex Machina (2015)

Thought it was good, but has some major plot holes, and you could see what was going to happen coming from a mile away. It does raise some very interesting questions about AI, and what would seem to be an inevitability if we achieve it. The dance scene was hilarious, and Isaac was solid as always. W...

I think ric makes some fair points here and there, particularly about the final battle with Immortan Joe. Honestly, it happened so fast I still have no idea how he was killed beyond the macro level of him getting his face ripped off. That said, it didn't really bother me that much that it did happen...

What a great action movie, this shit blows Avengers out of the water. Nothing is beating it this summer. This is an absolutely incredible piece of filmmaking. Having thought about this more I still feel the same way. Yes, Ultron was a better villain that an alien swarm, but as one of the Avengers greatest villains in the comics he really fell short here. I still have no idea what he was really hoping to accomplish. At first he was going to try to make a b...

Still, Marvel has to deal with the fact that a lot of these big name actors may not want to stick aroun...

This is a fine way to spend a Sunday afternoon, but it's middle tier Marvel which isn't terrible. The movie is all over the place, and I still have no idea what Ultron was all about. Was he really villainous or was he just twisted about what he thought was right? Plus he's quipping all over the plac...
