Favorite summer albums?

Post by Comedy Quaddafi »

Some albums just remind you of summer, either for nostalgic reasons or because of the atmosphere. What do you usually play to accompany good weather?

Souls of Mischief - '93
2nd II None - Classic 220
Dj Quik - Rhythm-Al-Ism
B-Legit - Hemp Museum
Eazy-E - It's On
Field Mob - Lighpoles and Pinetrees
Big Tymers - Hood Rich
TI - Trap Muzik
Kam - Made In America
Outkast - Aquemini
Daz - Retaliation
Soopafly - Whoopty Whoop
AZ - Aziatic

Witchdoctor - A S.W.A.T. healing ritual is my favorite album to listen to in summer, rolling down the street.

EVERY DAY IS A HOLIDAAAAY!

organized noise really shines on this one.

despite their lack of popularity around here, all people under the stairs records are excellent for summer time listening.

marinville: I'd be willing to bet Stakes Is High was released in the summer time. Just a guess, 'cause I certainly didn't buy the album anywhere near the time of its release (never been a huge De La fan, though I love the shit out of that album now), but music has a way of staying with you in your subconscious. You probably rocked the shit of Stakes Is High during the whole summer you bought it, and now all of those memories are permanently etched in your brain without you fully even being consciously aware of it, thus the reason you deem it such a great summer album.

Jesus, I'm drunk way too early.

Stakes is High definitely has some fucking memories...

not necessarily the year of its release but just in general... "Dinninit" on a hot summer day smoking a blunt is life...

First "Summertime" listen of the season as well... I avoid that song like the plague all year round just to hear that shit for the first time once Summer kicks...

Outkast- Atliens
Gangstarr-Moment of Truth
Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet
Poor Righteous Teachers-Black Business
The Pharcyde- Bizarre Ride II

I think this has everything to do with AC, and very little to do with PUTS. I think PUTS is good summer music too.

Interesting...

On these, I would say
Fall
Spring
Winter
Fall
Fall

Funny how people have completely different associations with albums. I'm sure many of my selections are not summer albums for a lot of heads.

I'm not trying to bag on your personal tastes, but this seems like an odd choice for summer music.

i can honestly never tell whats gunna come out from year to year.
last summer i was trapped in an 88 buick with only a tape deck so all i had was.

Redman - Dare Iz A Darkside (r.i.p tape snapped)
Nas - Illmatic / It Was Written
LL Cool J - Radio
Onyx - Bacdafuckup
N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton
Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill
Outkast - Aquemini
& A Jay-Z - Dead Presidents single...

I was smoking mad weed in that car. Those albums were real fun to bump too. Im not sure what will happen this summer. I know I turned my girlfriend into a Gangstarr fiend. So it should be a good time!

Death Certificate has Summer Vacation on it. It also was played all throughout my summer in '91 so thats where my association comes from. Steady Mobbin', Givin Up The Nappy Dug-out = summertime cuts IMO.

Illadelphhalflife too. What They Do is not a "fall" track.

Nas' album came out in April of '94 so it's definitely a summer album. Iron Man came out in the sumertime too.

July or August of 1996. I remember bumping that and Beats Rhymes and Life for most of my freshman year in college.

Co sign on the PUTS aslbums. love listening to them in the summer.

I also love listening to Sittin' on Chrome. Regulate, Doggystyle, Chronic, Me Against The World, Paul's Boutique.

as for funk in the summer I like that cooled out slow tempo shit. songs around 70-80 bpm with some crazy synth melodies. shit is perfect. I need to make a mix of some riding music.
