2. I prolly listened to that Shad album more than any album in the last year. It's a great fucking album. That said, the Canadians in this thread are acting like idiots. If you pay a little closer attention people aren't hating on Canada because it's Canada, they're hating because you prop up some really horrible, awful shit. I fucking hate k-os, but I can understand why some people may like him. Kardinal is - let's be honest - pretty fucking boring, but I get why some people like him. People are shitting on you right now because you're trying to prop up cheap internet jokes like Epic Fail and Turdburglar. I couldn't care less that they're both white or both Canadian, but citing them as examples of why people are nationalistic or racist is just fucking infuriating because as artists they are horrid. Some of you Canadians, by extension through these huge missteps in ability to judge the pure sonic qualities of the barely-even-music released by these assclowns, are getting shit on also because you've invalidated your arguments through a massive failure in taste. Nobody has ever shit on Shad for being Canadian. Nobody has ever shit on Brother Ali for being white. You guys just happen to cosign on shit that sounds like a bunch of middle school kids entertaining each other by making joke songs that are intentionally as bad as possible. I don't think Mindbender and his music being your chief representative here helps that much either.

 whatever.

I can go to my grave knowing that Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, and J Smoov respect, appreciate and enjoy the hip hop I make. I've rocked Project Blowed in Los Angeles, on a night where 20 AMERICAN MCs all got on stage, and 11 of them got booed off. I didn't. J Smoov actually came up after I was done rocking and said "GOD DAMN! That's how they get down in Canada? Who knew?"

I also tore shit up on L.A. Radio with Styles of Beyond, with Talib Kweli, Evidence, and many other serious MCs in the room, and nobody said I was wack at all.

Americans who aren't as tainted by Philaflava-hate have dug my shit, and just cause you don't, doesn't mean my art is any less good or valid.

Just cause I'm not as professional with my art as some others, Canadian and American, doesn't mean I'm creatively wack.

just so you know a BIT more today than you did yesterday, Popeye.

First, I'm not Wordburglar, so I'm not talking in the third person. I do have ulterior motives for promoting him though, as he is signed to my label, Hand'Solo Records, which has also released prior music from Buck 65, Sixtoo, Moka Only and more... So, there's the introduction. Good to meet'cha...

As for part two of your post, I can't speak for other Canadians in this thread, but the impression I'm getting from many is that Canada doesn't have any good emcees - nothing that can compare with those in the U.S. anyway. In fact, that's been said in numerous instances in this thread. And my point is, Canada does have dope emcees. Some fucking amazing emcees, in fact. It's not about Wordburglar at this point... It's the blanket statement that Canada just can't compete on an international (or even American) level when we sure as hell can.

If you like Burg, cool, keep on enjoying. If you don't like Burg, cool, move on. He's not all that Canada has to offer. Continue to listen to Shad, which is definitely a good pick for a dope Canadian artist. And when it comes to Kardinal, I feel you... I also find him boring, but the music he makes has more of a mainstream appeal for American fans so I understand why he's getting the exposure. But there are so many other dope Canadian artists that exist outside of what Kardinal does...

Kardinal's 1997 album 'Eye & I' was one of the best fucking albums of that decade, damn near.

That's the kinda shit I wish Akon was pushing out from Kardi. That's when Kardi was more of an MC, and not just a toaster/chatta/entertainer type vocalist, which he is now.

His last super dope song mighta been 'Husslin' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC62DlMrJCg

this is the Kardinal I like best.

nowhere in the world is as diverse as Canada when it comes to MCs. We will have identity crisis issues forever, LOL. Any American who thinks it's all nasaly white boys up here is sadly ignorant. We got MCs doing everything imaginable here, from bonafied ghetto-inspired street hop to abstract underground superlyrical shit, and nobody is getting signed or rich doing it... so it's definitely coming from the heart.

it will stay that way until $$$ falls from the sky onto everyone in :ohcanada: so... Toronto is one of the secret locations of pure hip hop culture on earth right now. and Canada is the future. :rockout:

After felating yourself with a bunch of bullshit, you wrote this:

See, I was talking about here, and you're agreeing with me that people here don't like your music. That's what just happened. I don't give a fuck about your music being good or valid, my point was that people here don't like it. We're in agreement.

I get it, you guys think you can compete on an international level. I'm fine with that. The problem - and the problem you guys are having - is with the evidence you cite for that argument. It's fine to have a national music scene, different genres and styles are appreciated in different locales. The issue you're running into is when you guys start citing epic fail, noah23, buck 65 and the like as your arguments for why Canada should be of international importance (mindbender just usually cites himself, but he falls in the same category). I'm fine with different shit being important in different places, but if you're using those people as examples of why people should care about Canadian hiphop it is MIND BLOWING, FUCKING HILARIOUS, AND ULTIMATELY UPSETTING TO MOST MUSIC FANS BECAUSE THAT SHIT IS ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HORRIBLE BY ANY KNOWN STANDARD OUTSIDE OF WHATEVER AS BACKWARDS CONCOCTION OF A SCENE THAT MUST BE GOING ON UP THERE. As I said before, a lot of that shit truly sounds like a bunch of middle school kids decided to make a bunch of horrible joke songs, got bored with the joke and even lazier in their disinterest half way through, but still finished anyway because they didn't have anything better to do. Independent of nationality and race, Epic Fails offbeat, lispy, in heat, hyperventilating, whiny, downs syndrome nonsense is literally the most tragically horrid music I've ever heard in my life. Somehow you guys like that. I'm shocked. I'm confused. I go to conspiracy theories because I can't figure out what else is going on. But if you try to tell me I should respect Canadian hiphop and use that as an example, I appreciate the tears of laughter and horrid freak show of it all but I'll eventually have to sit down, roll my eyes, and catch my breath. That's it. It's not a problem with the country, or even a problem with some of the music. It's just some of the examples are so tragically hilariously failure ridden that you guys come off as jokes.

holy shit, you're stubborn, guy. (<--- a little Canadianism there  )

MY point was: Philaflava's opinion does NOT = AMERICA'S OPINION.

you think good hip hop can't come from Canada? YOUR LOSS.

we posted stuff we like. just cause you don't like any of these examples, you want to write off our whole scene and history, even though there are hundreds more artists you obviously do NOT know about? dammit, you suck ass at life.

fuck, the worst Americans are horrible people. Stop ruining it for the good guys, please. I know everyone can't be as shitheaded as you. The country just couldn't function properly.

Wait... :killacam:
ba dum pssh

my north of the border friends: go to sleep tonight knowing that we got next in this hip hop shit. They will figure it out one day.

lock this shit up if people don't open their heads a bit more.

I'm outta here. peace to :ohcanada:

I've just been posting cats that I personally like. I'm sure if I posted many of the American rappers I like, I'd also get a similar reaction. I think my opinions on hip hop are just counter to the opinions of many others on here... Perhaps some of these Canadian emcees might be more to your liking:

Art of Fresh
Deezuz

Mayhem Morearty
Drake

Empire
4th Pyramid
HERO (E-Dot and Darp Malone)

theres tons of dope shit in canada, just like any other place. u just gotta look for it. its easy for people who don't care about it to miss the good shit. same with any city in the states.

lol @ whoever gave the example of knowing of thrust making him 'hip' to the canadian scene.

Even as a proud Canadian, 98% of hip hop coming out of here at any point in time has been trash.
That's just the truth. I wish it wasn't, but it is, and 98% is a generous figure.
When that 2% is exposed, I think it does get the respect it deserves.

It's the same shit with Australian hip-hop. The fans who really like oz hip-hop are a strange bunch who will passionately rep anything local and go as far to say US hip hop is garbage. It's not like they only rate it in comparison to "bad" hip hop like 50 cent, Chingy, whatever else, they rate it above everyone. It blows my mind how they could like something yet not like the very thing which it is emulating.

The question I always ask is, if this shit was really that good, why the fuck are the only people who ever like it people from the same area. Any good music will translate to other areas, just like US hip hop has done.

International hip hop scenes have a bizarre hometown pride thing going on, and at least out here it's mixed up with some weird patriotism/nationalism shit too. You can guarantee if Epic was from Australia, and Hilltop Hoods were from Canada, their popularities in their respective countries would switch.

Props to the UK for putting out a handful of artists that the rest of the world gives a fuck about.
