Joell Ortiz covers Classics

Really amazing, I love it when he does that. He can record an album of these kind of tracks and I'll cop.

Over Rapper's Delight, I Ain't No Joke, Strictly Business, Know The Ledge and Treat 'em Right.

Ok, found this information:

"Hereג€™s a little sampler of the upcoming project Joell Ortiz CoversThe Classics. Heג€™s basically gonna take all of your favorite old school beats and demolish them."

Yes, but does he dance when he raps? Doe he rap like Redman? If not, there's no way I can enjoy this.

Wow. Most of this sucks. The "Know The Ledge" part is dope though.

When he raps over old beats, his lack of charisma, wit, and flow in comparison to the old greats is painfully apparent.

Just to clarify, rappers do not "cover" songs (you hear me, Mindbender?) Singers cover songs; rappers ruin classic rap songs that usually are already bastardizing classic soul or blues songs. That's what rappers do.

Also, Joell Ortiz is a homo who should drop that extra L and invest it in some charisma.

Just sounds like a lack of ideas on Joell's part :
''I dont have/cant afford any good beats - maybe I should rap over ones people already know & love like other mixtape rappers have been doing for the past 10 years''

I think he's an ok rapper but does anyone else find his voice a bit annoying?

Covers like this are almost as ghey as the 'tributes' that keep appearing like the ATCQ and Primo ones - they arent dead!

ha ha.

thank you for sharing your perspective.

I do not think about it the way you do. And I can live with that.

I cover songs. And re-create songs. And do whatever the fuck I want.

and I salute Joell Ortiz for this. He's a great guy on many levels.

anyone remember this cover from years ago? caused a little controversy with the Nbombs in it. IMO an example of a well done rap cover song:

Didn't really like this track....I have to disagree about Joell Ortiz in general though...dude can rhyme his ass off...check the video link below....his set was delayed cause of technical difficulties...so instead of waiting around for shit to be fixed, dude just went acapella for a good 8 or 9 minutes...with the right beats, I think he can do well...he's got a nice, smooth flow

tough criticism.....

no one will ever re-create the original artist's magic....I just like the fact that Joell is keepin real shit alive and not letting people forget these monumental tracks....

Thanks man, I lost that link earlier. Some very dope covers there, I especially liked what he did to the OB4CL tracks.
