I appreciate what gloss is trying to do. I always wonder why the person who made the classic cut cant identify and itemize what made the songs great, in order to formulate a recipe of sorts with which they could to continue to make songs on par. Even if they tried other shit. they could use this as a starting point on which to build. I understand if a person wants to completely break it down and build it up again. but when it doesnt work, you will always have your grading key.

I just lead by example.sean wrote:this is a bad practice.iCONtheMicKing wrote:When one of those people stops falling in line as a yes-man they are removed. It's pretty much as simple as that.
teach all of your rapper friends to stop doing this.
yes-men will wreck your career.

And don't take this as an insult because I'm trying to build to the point. You had some hang-ups about your career and with that I'm sure came some resentment but I think you've matured greatly over the years and have eliminated many of those braggadocios elements that hindered your career more than it helped. You're now more viable, you're touring the world and actually making a nice living on it.
But Iono if I was ever under the Supernatural umbrella. Was I? You seem to know better than me. Run-of-the-mill is a stretch by any measuring stick though.
As far as I can remember when I first popped up I was getting praised for my silly concept rap songs on like the HHI record and then I was doing happy fuck you rap songs with QN5 that people seemed to like. If anything what I had to shake mostly the jedi shit. Excuse me for being arrogant when I could actually rap and everywhere I turn people are asking me about a corny suckerpunch.
Even with being less arrogant I still have hangups in my career. I just rap good and I know enough now to know that if I'm gonna remain the way I am as a person then I need to just fund it myself.
But anyway. I didn't say I was against people being critical of each other. In fact if you ask certain people (read: women) me being critical is one of my biggest personality flaws. I'm just saying that the difference that you would see is a bunch of muhfuckas cutting these critics out of their circles and calling them "haters" rather than people actually getting better. That's just not how it works with the brew of narcissism that is rapper or even with regular people.
Don't believe me? Get up out of your chair and go tell your boss what he's been doing wrong and the continue to do so. I guarantee you get fired before the quarter is out.

p.s. Myka 9's album is dope. It's out now on Fake Four Records. HOLLER!

Thanks! I've been trying to get with Ras Kass since he got out and is practically begging for me to oversee his new album. I told him I don't want a dime. He is surrounded by the wrong folks and anytime somebody that talented is wasting away it pains me.christian from austin wrote:I appreciate what gloss is trying to do. Come on, man.sean wrote:word. i understand what you are saying.Philaflava wrote: i don't know you 5 years ago so i can't comment about something that happened 10 years ago. i think your label might have to do with the music you make than sean daley the person. i can't call it.
i own every acey album there is, most of which i've purchased. i'm a fan, a big fan and maybe that is why i'm quick to express my unhappiness in his recent projects. i don't doubt you've listened to the albums. you should, it's convenient for you to stay up on things owning a music store but can you honestly say those albums contain repeat listening? can you pick out a particular track that really struck you? my opinion is they were weak attempts that most people look at as failed executions. it almost seems like acey made these as a goof. so again, do you still listen to these albums after the 1st listen? did you listen to them in their entirety? what tracks did you carry over into your ipod? and i'm not putting you on blast, we're talking real here so let's get real.
plenty of artists that fuck with us, have friends that don't like me, or my music. no big deal really. so yeah, i don't really need to keep a smile on my face to keep the label running smooth. besides, everyone knows that i rarely even show up for the meetings unless they are about me.
nope. nothing acey has made in the last ten years is on my ipod.
but to be fair, i doubt there is ten rap albums from the last ten years on my ipod.
1972 man.
my ipod is full of the raps i liked when i was 17.
i'm one of those dinosaur rapfans.
but i try to study new stuff at least once.
and imo neither of those two acey albums were as bad as some posters say. just my opinion though.
If those Acey albums arrived at the Rhymesayers office as a demo from an unnamed artist, you guys would laugh at them and promptly trash can the fuck out of 'em.

i don't accept demos. from unknown or known artists.
i may listen to one from time to time.
but i will never work with an artist based on a demo.
and as far as i'm concerned, that's not the point.
acey earned the right to fuck around and try some shit.
you don't hafta like it, you can hate it, but don't knock us for getting older and wanting to try some shit.

no.If you're implying Acey is Mike Eagle's boss and with the some suggestions he could get booted from teh group, then maybe
The first day I met Ace we had an argument. He's not surrounded by yes-men. Like most of us rapper-types, he's incredibly stubborn. Even his manager was giving him suggestions on what type of album he should probably make. He asks people's opinions and they give it to him. In many instances, he chooses not to internalize them.
And really, for clarity's sake, there is no Blowed boss. Acey is most certainly a team captain but there are a few of those. Ab, Badru, Ellay Khule and others also share that role. Maybe things would be more organized if there were one leader but as it stands its quite the chaotic group. No one really has to worry about being booted from the group for dissent. There are Blowedians that dont speak to Ace. Its more about allegiance to a place and an approach than a person.
i agree with Mike Eagle. you should sticky this since it gets made every 6 weeks. word to what Gloss, Sean, and iCON are saying though.....yes-men fuckin' suck.....
the last Acey album was not good. i will always appreciate him for thinking out of the box and having an original style. putting out some real dope material. in all honesty, his execution lately has been off. in comparison to what Ab Rude and Myka's new shit, it definitely doesn't match up well within the Haiku De' Tat recent catalogue.

I'm actually way worse. I just don't say that shit on a message board. Employee. I respectfully and humbly request that you not chime in to call my friends names when I'm posting if you don't have any career advice for me. Feel free to call them whatever you like when you are speaking directly to them but I'm not all that sure what you get out of calling them names when you are talking to me?
Thanks homey.

iCon, I disrespectfully and pridefully demand that you cease making music with pasty and/or chubby faggazoids who bring nothing to the table but vogue thuggery and LDL cholesterol. The wigger market is overcrowded as it is and will only serve as a detractor to your career. I'm sorry that you're real life friends with Vanderslice and a could-be-my-next-door-neighoor lookin' ass Peanuts character. Get a manager and a record deal.iCONtheMicKing wrote: Employee. LOLz @ you not realizing how wholly insignifcant I am in/to the blogosphere. At least your world-class faggotry generates a portion of your rent money. So it isn't a total waste.multsanta wrote:Or Beck podcasts?Employee wrote:Go blog about your insecurities or Baltimore house music, fag.multsanta wrote:I think the problem has less to do with poor choices than it does with fundamentally deteriorating rap skills. He still does his thing occasionally. He put out a record a couple of years ago. Last I heard he was doing some stuff with 2mex and Deeskee.Philaflava wrote:Nope. I asked if you'd seen the doc because there's a scene in it with volume 10 talking about how close he was to making it. You can tell it still affects him.
i remember Volume 10 putting out some CD in 2001 or so with a cartoon on his face on it. you know what i'm talking about, Mike Eagle. he had this song about smoking trees and a line in it about dropping the blunt faster than Mark Brunell and saying "dammit there's a hole in the carpet". dope song........
