Homeboy Sandman beat me.

Post by tayoisnt »

to the punch on a sample, that is.

saw his new 72 bars for Rosenberg joint pop up on nahright and bugged for two reasons. the first being that, like pretty much everything i've heard from HS, it's dope as hell. the second being that i'd rocked the same sample a few months ago and ending up with better results, imho. what do y'all think?

http://bit.ly/ekXzj1 - HS joint.
http://bit.ly/hYnFO9 - my beat (starts at about the 25 second mark).
got more records than god.

Your beat is cool but doesn't exactly "bang." Original is better for rapping purposes, yours is better for soundtracking expensive watch commercials or something. Not meant as an insult.

thanks for listening, fam.

reason - ha, man, i'm not that dope. just a satisfied boombap regressive with a hobby that works for me. that's a really generous thing to say, though. so, thanks.

thun - ha. yeah, i know what you mean. tend to make joints that try a little too damn hard. plus, they don't leave much room for a rapper to get loose through. that said, i bought the HS record off itunes and played it at the same volume next to diddybop and my joint definitely thwacked harder on and in the low end. i think, anyway.

I really have to 2nd this remark. Tayo, you're dope as fuck and I'm humbled as an MC and esp. a producer. Stop making it a hobby and start making some serious money from it. You're cheating yourself and all of your invisible fans. WAKE UP!

Was listening to the top 10 songs thing Tayo posted when people were posting stuff like that a while back yesterday. Really, really good stuff.

wow.

thanks, fam.

sherlock - seriously, i'm pretty bugged out over how much you dig my stuff. never really wanted to do it anywhere near full time since the second it gets anywhere near anything obligatory, it'll start being far less interesting. but, i am really appreciative of the props and will use it to help start and finish more music.

CQ - thanks. for digging the sounds for that long. 10 years of this. cripes, that's depressing and dope all at once.

SL - no worries at all, big homie. take your time with the songs, and safe travels.

thanks again for listening to and digging the work, i'm grateful.

Resolved Question
Does Biggie Smalls hate HipHop???

"Shoulda been a cop, Fukc Hiphop"

I've been wondering what he meant by this.

Rap sucks, HipHop is better

Naw, he likes hip hop and rap. He was just referring to if he hadn't started rapping he would've been a cop.
So he's cursing it, not that he doesn't like it, just for the sake of it.

here's the top 10 tracks package.

http://www.divshare.com/download/8493572-e53

and, if you're interested, here's part of what *might* become a full length instrumental project, tentatively titled Pharrell Won. the overall theme's gonna be sample free beats that don't sound like they're sample free beats. this one's called Choloform Is For Sissies.

thanks again, fam.

Have you ever done a full length project before?

I like your attitude regarding your music, but if you finish this next project maybe at least notify us and others and set up a paypal so people can pay whatever they feel it's worth? Just a thought.

tayo been a beast on the boards and the mic. i'd like to see you do an EP with you handling everything, beats and rhymes.

ps. comp crashed and i lost those 3 joy tracks you upped a while back. divshare's not letting me re-download them for some reason. :owens: re-up?

pps. send this beat to HS for a remix.

Cool beat Tayo. You sound like the type of person who loves to cook but doesnt want to go into culinary work becuase youre afraid it wont be what it was when you loved doing it. Go for it anyways, if it doesnt work out, you can always go back to what you were doing.

I like yours a lot more.

Quick unrelated question (two parts):

You rap too, right?

If so, do you ever refer to yourself as a poisonous tayo-ist like Afru Ra (but intentional)?

I'd assume so, but just want to make sure.

PJ - ha. naw, i tend to avoid taoism references. thankfully, my awkward pretention manifests itself more firmly in my responses on message boards than in the 16s i bang together.

HH - that's a pretty solid analogy, actually. i really just don't have much interest in any kind of music career, since i'm pretty sure it'd make me love the songs less. making and sharing the tunes is fine, but all the other gunk that comes along with that end of the process seems more annoying than it'd be worth.

axel - no worries, big homie. here y'are.

CQ - yep, put together a full length instrumental project in '04(?) called Glasshead. hasn't aged all that well, but i dug it. and sure, if the new stuff resolves itself, i'll definitely let folks know.

thanks again, fam. seriously, i really appreciate the appreciation.
