i think the point that isnt quite concrete to control is that he's shifting back the idea of what a rapper can be to young fans. control is important, as a song and verse, because he's pointing out the momentum and traction he's gaining with the direction he's moving. while drake makes albums conceptually in line with the status quo, albeit with production pushing some boundaries, he's still not saying anything important or worth repeating/teaching. the thing that pisses most people off about kendrick is that he finally had to get aggressive and hit home with his point for the artists aligned with the current tastes to realize where he's going.

kids don't grow up wishing to be like big L or rakim anymore. They want to have masarati's and chains at this point. what kendrick is doing is necessary to shift ideologies back again.

What the hell did Black Hippy do all 2013 except sit on their lazy asses, smoke weed and pop mollies?

They were supposed to release three albums this year, instead they just spent all their time doing jack.

Compare their unproductiveness to the solid efforts of Ka, Roc Marciano, Billy Woods, Killer Mike & El-P and Danny Brown etc who all put work in and mostly gave us as much good music as last year.
