louis logic - look on the blight side (2013)

so many amazing quotables, so much amazing music.

"to think it was considered crude in the bars/ before computers would chart/
who you should partner up with/ that's when falling in love was still viewed as an art..."

"it's not okay! this is not alright!/ if the plot don't change soon, nobody's gonna want their life!"

Big Fish Eat Little Fish is :copy: + :mrcee: + :rockout:

the whole shit is amazing. don't sleep. our brother Louis just quietly returned from his 7 year hiatus with one of the VERY BEST albums of the year.

Before I listen to this, I need to know: when was the last time Lou hung out with Symantiks?

everything. Louis Logic is one of the most slept-on great rappers of the last 20 years.

start at "Sin-A-Matic" and discover greatness as you keep moving forward

When my crew got to open for him, it was a great show. He played out the keys on the tracks. He took music theory and learned how to play more instruments to produce the album.

God dammit I hate when good rappers branch out towards rock. The drums and chorus consistently sound like they belong on an indie rock album. Nope, no thanks.

i thought he branched out with a non-rap side project a year or two ago.

Probably, I've been out of the loop since sin-a-matic. Maybe that's why this album caught me off guard

Wow. Yeah really don't like this at all. Pretty much co-sign everything DJ Communist said. I used to love "Sin-A-Matic" and maybe the next 2 after that.

Sin-A-Matic is his masterpiece. The appeal of Louis Logic in the 2000s was that he could be as lyrical as any lyrically-lyrical-spiritual-miracle in the underground, except unlike most of his contemporaries, he had/has a real gift for melodies, concept and song structure that made an album like Sin-A-Matic really satisfying, even a decade later. "Idiot Gear" is one of its era's best singles, "Street Smarts" is a great showing of what he's capable of and "Fair Weather Fan" is the best approach to its topic that rap's ever produced.

if you like MUSIC, you'll love this album.

if you like rap music, you'll only like a couple songs on this album, maybe.

if you appreciate audio artistry, this album is to be fucking adored and praised highly. Louis made it all himself.

If you're too used to how he was with his sound on Sin-A-matic, you're not gonna be into some of the stuff on this album. I thought it was cool how he's progressed trying to do something more than what he's done in the past. I like it personally and thought the production for it matched his voice well and etc.

I didn't even know about this coming out until the slept on album thread in the year end poll, and I consider myself a fan of the guy. Sin-a-matic is great, as was the Odd Couple album he made with JJ Brown that no one ever listened to. I gave this a spin in the background while at work, it's different but I like it. Will have to check it out again when I can give it my full attention.

I feel the same way about that mixture as I do musicals. Separate the two and I'm good. Put them together and I'm guaranteed to cringe. Shit isn't groundbreaking; it's corny.
