Yes, I guarantee they are going to get Iovine and Dre on board to run iTunes (and maybe even have some say in future iterations of the iDevices) and to make decisions in regard to where that part of the company is going. They've had a tech guy (I think Scott Forstall?) running it for years and while it was doing just fine, they really need a guy with Iovine's prowess in the industry to make power plays going forward.EMCEE DARTH MALEK wrote:run the music service? like run itunes? i don't get it.
Spotify's (and Beats' and rdio's) business models are not realistic or sustainable. A musician gets paid about $.007 for every play on these services and Spotify with its millions of subscribers isn't making much money to speak of. Something's gotta give.

Re: Hip Hop's First Billionaire: Dr. Dre
so they want a former musician to run their music downloading service? i think they want dre just for the name.
iovine works well with artists who want to go pop. he seems qualified to be the gatekeeper for artists signing on to itunes if they want to run it more like a record label. popular original content exclusive to their service could give them a netflix type edge.
i'll take your word but it's still not clicking for me. this is why i'm not a captain of industry.

"Billboard also notes that the Beats Music streaming service is a separate business unit only partly owned by Beats Electronics, and if the unlimited-access music service is key to Apple's interest, there could be a disagreement over the purchase price. One source tells the music industry magazine that there are also concerns over whether Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre are a good fit as Apple executives. Especially after Dr. Dre's expletive-filled celebration of the news that was posted on Facebook and subsequently seen by thousands online. "

Vox is a really great site. Great information presented clearly. What's your beef.

they're removing headphone jacks from all future products. lightning only
going forward you'll need to use beats headphones, bluetooth or airplay to connect to a stereo or headphones. i'm sure third party products & adaptors will come in due time, but it means mo money for apple either way

I don't get why anybody doesn't just use bluetooth. Wires suck.

bluetooth earbuds seem kinda sus to me.Dids wrote:I don't get why anybody doesn't just use bluetooth. Wires suck.
i use earbuds almost exclusively with my iphone, so i'm not that torn up about owning lightning headphones (which will apparently have additional capabilities)
connectivity to stereos is another issue. bluetooth & airplay are great, but they're not that common in the grand scheme of things. it's nice to be able to plug an iphone into mixer, amp, computer speakers on a whim. that's not gonna be possible until everyone replaces their y-cables or carrys around adaptors

Dr. Dre's a dick sucker. Literally. Not that I hate gays, it's just funny that he pretends to be straight; and hardcore. HardHomo.
