bonus: Check Out Time
it's real hard to make it 10. it's not a bloated album, could be a couple tracks shorter but shouldn't be one disc like you could say for nas & jay's albums.
btw. you're severely underrating check out time not only as a bar closing song, but as a variation in pace in the context of the album.

"Only God Can Judge Me" is my favourite track from any 2Pac album, period. "Heartz Of Men" a close second (it's Quik's best beat).
My #3 - #10 is probably similar to everyone else's, save for "Can't C Me" which is one of those songs that should be great in theory, but really just sounds like Pac forcing it over a beat Suge made Dre sacrifice. I never listen to it.
I must say - "I Ain't Hard 2 Find" is super underrated. Never mentioned. It's one of the best beats on the album, and my only gripe with the song itself is that it's a posse cut. Shoulda been all Pac. But that shyt bumps.
And how could I forget "Holla At Me"! The rapping on that >>>

This post has got me revisiting this album and I must say, it has aged impeccably.

Weird that when I bring this album up as being the best double, everyone's like "nah, too much filler," yet when you ask people their fave 5-10, the list is always different. That says the LP is sonically even but without consensual standouts, as opposed to say It was Written, Reasonable Doubt, ATLiens or any of the other big 96 albums.
IMO there's only 3 poor songs on this. And for a 27 track album, that's pretty fucking spectacular.
btw I just watched the AEOM flick and it's hilarious. It's like someone took a Wikipedia article and made a movie about it.

Unsolved on USA got it right, and Mark Rose is a far more convincing 2pac. You can watch the series at http://www.123watchfree.co" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or on the USA website if it's available in your zone.
Someone had this on today at a BBQ and then I asked them to play Me Against The World and I don't even understand someone saying AEOM is his best record.
CarlosDelgothoes wrote:AEOM is a double album, yet there are a higher number of bad songs on MATW
here's a new question: is the best song on MATW better than the best song on AEOM?
So Many Tears
Temptations
Lord Knows
Dear Mama
Old School
Death Around The Corner
I'd rather hear these song than probably any song on AEOM. I like AEOM, don't get me wrong, but it's probably my East Coast biased that makes me hate cause back then it was fuck Pac for me.
alpha wrote:^ are you kidding me? Half those of those would be among the worst on AEOM.
I'm not, but again, I'm biased so my opinion is not the same as someone who is either objective or a big PAC fan.
Again, at that point I hated PAC and Death Row so my listening experience then or even now is tainted with this album. I recognize it's greatness but it's not my bag. MATW and it's vulnerability is what draws me. Probably the reason why I favor Nas to Jay or Big or the reason I love Ghostface so much. PAC on AEOM is him at his most brash and egotistical for the most part. Which is great, of course. I didn't come in here shitting on AEOM, I just think MATW is his best personally. I'm likely in the minority but I'm not alone in this thinking that's for sure.

To me pac on death raw was the best version of pac, but I've noticed people who aren't "big pac fans" and typically like mostly east coast rap tend to like the MATW version of pac the best. Don't get me wrong tho, MATW is a very good album.

Fair and accurate. At least for me.
How Do You Want It is like the best shit ever, though.

AEOM was when PAC went full retard with the "gangster" image. MATW he was still being an authentic human being. That's a major difference and it's easy to see why some would like one over the other.
couldn't agree more with stypeones... never thought it was close and never thought there was a legit group of people that consider all eyez on me to be a better record than me against the world... old school has to be pac's best song...
for the record for those watching at home aeom > matw has never and will never be the majority opinion... I have heard nobody in my life outside of this thread claim this... the only album I have heard anybody put up to 2pac's undoubted opus matw, was 7 day theory...
I've never owned that album or heard it front to back.
But I have heard most of this list
no order
1. Ambitionz Az A Ridah
2. All About U
4. Got My Mind Made Up
5. How Do U Want It
6. 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted
10. Only God Can Judge Me
15. Can't C Me
16. Shorty Wanna Be a Thug
21. Picture Me Rollin'
24. All Eyez On Me
I don't think I ever heard Got My Mind Made Up... add California Love to the list as songs I've heard from the album.
So I guess I've already heard all there is to hear.
I would listen to 2Pac more often if his songs weren't so God damn long.
I wonder how long his songs would be if all the track outros were cut out. Hit Em Up has only one Pac verse and is done by the minute mark of a five minute song.
