interesting that Primo and Pete Rock didn't make the list. Both have strong cases for 94 although I'm not mad at all Mo Bee took it. Just curious given the level of the rep/influence involved.
Primo probably shoulda took 96 over Organized Noise. Reasonable Doubt, Firing Squad, Wrath of the Math plus I Gave You Power. What did ON do besides half of ATLiens?
Also lol@BBTP getting 1998. I understand they were everywhere that year, but 99% of the shit was trash. As loathe as I am to admit, it should've been Swizz Beats. He owned the sound.

If it's not BBTP, then it shoulda been Mannie Fresh before Swizz.

nah, Mannie's year was 99. Think about how after Swizz dropped in 98 everyone started copying that god awful casio beat shit. He was super influential, but mostly trash. Just slightly less trash than BBTPKid That's Lifeless wrote:If it's not BBTP, then it shoulda been Mannie Fresh before Swizz.

Beats By The Pound was trash? News to me. Swizz killed shit too, but don’t diminish the accomplishments of those boys.
98 was insane for KLC and Beats By The Bound. Amazingly produced albums for Snoop, Mac, Fiend, Young Bleed, Soulja Slim, P, Mystikal, Mia X, C-Murder. All in 98.

Out of all the rap label 'sounds' (Death Row, Ruff Ryders, Cash Money etc), No Limit's was the worst. Fuck that Snoop album in particular.

Don’t know what to tell ya. Go back bad listen to that Young Bleed album or a different end of the spectrum, the Mac album. The production is fantastic. I am aware that it’s intetent-nerd-cool to shit on them, but it is without merit.

Expected to see Pete Rock, Primo, Timbaland and Just Blaze somewhere in there.

Right. List is clickbait. Straight up.Spartan wrote:Expected to see Pete Rock, Primo, Timbaland and Just Blaze somewhere in there.
List makes a more interesting message board discussion than article for internet if that makes sense

Re: 1998/No Limit, Happy Perez did most of the beats on Young Bleed's first album not Beats By The Pound.
Also, it's hard not to think BBTP kinda fucked the How Ya Do Dat beat up once you go back and hear Perez's o.g beat on Bleed's solo version.

To be fair, Happy Perez is the real driving force behind Young Bleeds first album. Which is one of my favorite produced albums ever. KLC sprinkled some shit in....but there's a reason it doesn't sound anything like those No Limit albums from that era.
EDIT ^ Just saw someone posted about Happy Perez and Young Bleed. So word.

yeah. LOLLLL that DJ Premier isn't on this list once but Kanye West is on it FIVE TIMESSpartan wrote:Expected to see Pete Rock, Primo, Timbaland and Just Blaze somewhere in there.
and Metro Boomin on it twice and no Pete Rock
Just Blaze should have one of those Kanye slots, no question
Timbaland's work with Aaliyah is better than almost ANYTHING in rap and is production-of-the-decade-status, just saying

Ahhhh, obviously I know a bunch of the songs he made. Never knew who made them. Can't say I was reading many liner notes in 2006. Definitely a lot of dope shit but I'mma still throw a at him ever being the best producer of any year.

Re: The Best Hip-Hop Producer Alive, Every Year Since 1979
The Chronic dropped not long before Xmas 1992
Doggystyle dropped less than a year later in late 1993
Thus, Dr. Dre was empirically the best producer of 1993.

^^^
This is the thing. 36 Chambers dropped late 93 so all RZA had prior to that was the first 12"
The Chronic & Doggystyle held down 93 into mid 94 when the Above The Rim soundtrack came out.
If Dre takes 93 then you have room for Pete Rock in 92

I will NEVER stop loving Dr. Dre's infatuation with Ja-fakin' accents. It just shows that he misses The DOC so very much.

I'm not flexing, fuck does that mean anyway. I've just genuinely never heard of any of those dudes other than Kanye and No I.D. That Noah Shebib name looks kinda familiar. I'm assuming they are mainstream producers.Yohan wrote:Weird flex but ok.aeokq wrote:I've only heard of two of the producers after 2003.
