Is the voting period over? I'm a little out of the loop. This battle is top notch, by the way. Two of my favorites.

hahaha...good to see one my favorite poets is still at it. Your style in this one was a lot more forward than I remember but maybe I've grown with your writing.

This was cool. Not really as sharp as your usual self, to be honest. But I don't think that matters.

Peace.

Why are we still together? / But I couldn't live in it...

Post by Nowell's Soul »

I like to look at the romantic side of things.
The imaginary, reach-for-the-stars fluff,
That had you practicing your signature with my last name.
But you can't even reach the ceiling,
So nevermind the idealized side of things.

We've got a history,
But there's always a bias in remembering.
I don't want to change how you picture it.
But best friends tell each other everything,
Not just the things they can get away with.

You're my baby doll.
But we spend more time apart than together.
You're my first love,
But that just means I should sail through different weather.
If everyone settled on the first island they saw,
The whole world would be aching for a reason to look further.

You said I was your true love,
I didn't believe you for a second.
I scrutinize every complement
I see it as just another mistaught lesson.

I'm passed leaving messages.
Through with belonging to someone I never see.
I'm over living life through a love that can't be real.
I'm tired of the way I hold back every thought I have,
I'm fearful of the way you'll react,
When you find out what you'll never understand.

You're all blue eyes.
You're all exclaimation points.
You're all about seeing things for what they're not.
You're all about a hope that's more your's than mine.

For every mile that separate us,
There's a thousand thoughts of doubt.
And everytime I call you,
I'm skeptical of what comes out your mouth.

We're not perfect.
Quit saying that.
There's more out there.

She even asked if she talks about love too much.
I thought, behind every question, there's a reason for it.
Behind everytime you disappointed me,
There's a hesitance pouring out of every word I speak.
Every word I write to you is etched in knowing
That we've got more going against us than for us.
I always thought someday
We'd turn that into something that would leave us breathless.

Not gasping for breath.
Not waking up from cold-sweat dreams.
Not giving everything up, for just a second of seeing
The way you can't resistance the compliments
I need to escape every consequence.
Just forget you were ever there at all.

I wanted you to see what I saw.
Now that you do, I want you to close your eyes to it all.
I've never distrusted someone so genuine before.
I can't wake up every morning next to you.
I'd like you to have that same reservation.
You want to make things work,
I want to forget everything that you're saying.

I've stopped dreaming about you.
I've stopped calling you back
I've stopped talking about you.
I've stopped caring what you think.

If you believe in us, you're even more innocent than you hinted.
A year and two months ain't nothing to sneeze at.
And being together shouldn't be something you play with.
So you want the truth, here goes, don't cry baby doll
I want back all of the time that we've wasted.

I'll never show you this poem, I'm not that cold-hearted.
It was just a way for me to finish what my mind's already started.
But I do need to follow what my heart has been saying.
Please return to who you were and I will do the same.

Peace.

Correct as usual King Friday.

Just lovely. Reminds me of a piece I wrote called Illiterate. I'll see if I can find it.

i think popa killed the middle of the verse..flow was on point and some real nice punches

based on this battle alone i'd have to give it to poppabitch

Vote- HG

I have to keep it real. The only thing is that HG's verse went kind of off towards the end in terms of rhyme scheme but being that we can only read it, I have to give the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't want to vote on this match but since I was forced to, I did.
