Great choices by everybody above esp. K-Def, Lord Digga and T-Ray. All those videos froze my browser for a good 3 minutes tho, lol. I never really know how to give a definitive answer to a thread like this because what is under-appreciated varies depending on what you're outlook of music is or the group of people you discuss it with. I can only give my opinion based on my experience.

From Gyangsta's list, I think Scratch is the most slept on of them. All the others seemed to get alot of spotlight in my opinion esp. Swizz. I remember one magazine article back around 2000 where Pete Rock took time out to diss Swizz, saying his style of beatmaking was fake.

I choose Dr. Butcher for his work on the Kool G Rap albums as a protege of Large Pro. He's one of those artists who I wish would've had more features on albums beyond the late 90's. He had a nice touch of darkness on beats he did for 456 and Roots Of Evil.

I also choose Mike Dean & Tone Capone from Scarface's production camp for their great work on The Untouchable, then The Fix, MADE and on. I see Mike's credits on Kanye's albums but I think he should be out there as a more established name by now instead of ghost producing and mixing like that.

I wonder what happened to the cat that produced You Ain't A Killer for Big Pun? He also made a banger for G Rap on "Thug For Life".

I obviously did not read the title as Mars Ill was more like 2000-2001...
