From 2005 on up until 2009, Prodigy revived, AZ had a couple of wonder years, Raekwon started the Cuban Linx 2 campaign, Royce came back a MONSTER after the DUI sentence, Jay-Z made American Gangster, Nas was warrin' on a couple of controversial theme albums and shook up the whole game, Freeway had a good album, Saigon was dropping tracks amidst the label drama, Crooked I got the HHW going, Kanye stayed on fire (including 808's), Lil Wayne was dropping those mixtapes, R. Kelly did some hilarious stuff, Andre 3000 dropped verses here and there, Slaughterhouse formed... and those were just off the top.... And then there were a few DJ Premier tracks that MERKD it, MURDID it and KILT the whole fucking game at the time: Terikyaki Boyz - You Know What Time Is It?!, Cormega - Dirty Game, Royce da 5'9 - Ding Ding, Kool G Rap - On The Rise Again, Agallah - New York Ryder Music, Termanology - Watch How It Go Down, Blaq Poet - Ain't Nuttin' Changed... Alright I'm drawing blanks, someone take over, GO GO GO....

impulsively off the dome, in no particular order:

HHNF

Return of the Mac

Underground Kingz (edited down to about 17 best tracks)

Beaty and The Beat

Fishscale

EDIT: looking at this list, I stand by all the albums named and I enjoyed the shit out of them, but at the same time this feels like a list of death. Pimp C died, Clipse never made another good one, Edan didn't follow up, Ghostface plateaued into diminishing returns, Prodigy floundered and went to jail. And none of it reflects that the next wave good things was already starting to bubble up by the end of the specified time period.

Form like Voltron with Sherman and collaborate on a doctoral thesis that not only addresses the core of your chagrin, but further elucidates your joint inferiority complexes; provoked in equal measure by Lyrics Born and imperialist heterosexuality.

I'd agree with the TS that 08-09 were weaker, but 05-07 were strong years. Even from a commercial standpoint.

Kanye West - Late Registration
Jay-Z - American Gangster
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Scarface - Made
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor

I thought all of those albums were very strong, with Fishscale being a classic. These are some of my other favorites from 05-09. I'm probably forgetting a few. Just going off my I-pod right now.

Killah Priest - The Offering
Hell Razah - Renaissance Child
Brother Ali - The Undispute Truh
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Lix II
DJ Muggs & GZA - Grandmasters
Edan - Beauty and the Beat
Ghostface Killah - More Fish
Ghostface - The Big Doe Rehab
Ill Bill - The Hour of Reprisal

Also, a bunch of albums listed in this thread that I've never heard before. Good looks for that.
