Name some great lyricists with an annoying voice?

Post by Dat_Triflin_Ass_Dude »

other than Canibus?

or it could be just an annoying way of flowin'

Canibus pre- and up to his 1st album was very listenable, but the guy's stuff just hurts my eardrums now. Listened to his latest album Melatonin Magik yesterday and damn near skipped through every joint. I just can't listen to his shit b/c of the way he flows and his voice is annoying as fuck. Doesn't mean dude ain't spittin some real shit though.

Lil Wayne - it boggles my mind that people think this little turd can be considered the greatest lyricist alive, but whatever, sign of the time i guess. I tried giving dude the benefit of the doubt and give him an honest shot at trying to listen to his shit, but i just can't get past the guy's utter annoyance.

Same with Drake.

Curren$y - got around to listening to this guy for the 1st time with his Smokee Robinson mixtape and I can't believe all the hype surrounding this cat. Seriously?

I wouldn't exactly call Curren$y, Drake or Wayne great lyricists, but I do agree with Canibus. I liked his stuff before he dropped an album, when he was building a buzz dropping verses on some ill tracks, but I don't listen to any of his albums. Rip The Jacker and Mic Club are his best, but even those don't get much play. It's hard to take someone serious when they name an album Melatonin Magik, not to mention when they have a horrible cover like that. But enough of that, here's some of the stuff I was refering too..

for people who say they care about the mc's voice; how do you rationalize the high pitched screech of bootie brown and imani. as one example

vermillion, in no way shape or form was i tryin to imply that Lil Wayne, Drake and Currensy are great lyricists. I'd be damned if i do. I merely included them since many peeps including some folks on this forum think they are.

I prefer Pharcyde's high pitched shit to B-Real's... his nasal flow is fuckin annoying.

Sir- Mix-a-Lot's white-man voice is pretty horrendous too.

Voice is a big part of delivery. If someone came on the mic with a voice like this kid spitting your favorite verse ever, I'm sure you wouldn't like it as much as someone with a good voice..

i hear u, but annoyance is relative like all things. I think lil wayne's flow, vocal tone are annoying as fuck, but many think he's the greatest shit ever. Lotta peeps thought Onyx were annoying when they came out, and still do, but i've digged their stuff since day 1. A friend of mine has slept on MOP's 90s stuff b/c he doesn't like their screaming/aggressive flows.

The voice can connect to the persona on the mic. Someone who'll make the song sound interesting (to their ears) in some sort of way naturally. Going strictly by lyrics doesn't justify what makes the emcee. If you want that, you might as well look at writers and ghost writers for that.

thank you for another great example of shit I won't ever listen to because of his voice.

All that other shit Sole, Slug, Atmos, etc. etc... I prolly will never listen to because of their voices.

yes :omgracist:

Here's a good example of voices, IMO.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jstb6yvIKNg&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jstb6yvIKNg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RRkvg_LuZvk&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RRkvg_LuZvk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The original and the cover. Big difference. No top 50 emcee jokes, please. LOL.

:naswtf: seriously, i can't even comprehend that.

music to me needs to sound good first and foremost. i just went through my collection and couldn't find one thing to contribute to this thread. actually the closest thing i could find was bobby digital and that's only because i used to hate on rza's off kilter flow, which i eventually grew to like, but even then, his voice wasn't the problem.

are you okay with shitty sound quality too?

Dont mind canibus's voice. sounds kinda like jadakiss. they should do a song together to throw ppl off. wouldn't be as bad as an ice cube/killer mike/beanie sigel track though (which i would really like to happen).

cormega's voice makes him sound like a pussy. it's like he's always kinda whining. killah priest's voice is really annoying on some songs. masta killa always pissed me off but that's mostly his lack of energy.

surprised no one mentioned the king of shitty voices: EMINEM
it's like he's perfect in every other technical aspect of rapping... but he has this one glaring flaw
1. Nas
2. Drake

that's pretty much it fam.

Aesop Rock's voice is nasty on the ears. I don't care if he may be able to spit a little bit, he's just not comfortable to listen to at all.

not a huge deal

i've probably listened to young zee's musical meltdown 2nd generation tape rip dozens of times through.

also going to rap shows where you can't hear the words is one of the worst experiences out there.
