Oddisee

Post by vinylpops »

I searched for an Oddisee thread and was semi-surprised I didn't find one.

What does :phila: think of him as a producer and/or MC?

IMO, one of the best "newer" artists in recent years. Consistent and continues to grow as both a producer and MC. His releases since Foot in the Door in 2006 (and his big emergence in 2008) have all been on point, his work ethic/output is unmatched.

On top of the 13 mix tapes/instrumental mix tapes/EPs, the collabos with Trek Life, Stik Figa, Yu/XO/Diamond District and the random production/MC loosies have all been dope.

CMON MAN

I'm more of a fan of his production. Highly underrated and needs more appreciation.

Where my borkpackers at?

Recently worked with :phila: poster (former?) Stik Figa. Here's the new free EP. LP to come out in 2011.

he is a top 10 producer to me

I'm not usually checking for his rhymes, but I'm generally pretty surprised when I hear him. He holds his own.

He's definitely grinded and molded his own sound. And made a smart move with branding on Mellow Music Group. That project with Stik has been done for a minute but he wanted to find the right time to drop the project.

Oddisee is the man. Makes great beats, has a dope voice and definitely holds his own on the rhyme tip.

When I first listened to Kanye's new joint, I thought it was Oddisee on the beginning of 'So Appalled'. Weirded me out.

His beats are dope. The Super Mario Brothers themed EP with Joell Ortiz that he mentioned on Juan Esptein a few months back should be interesting.

Haven't heard much of his production, but as a rapper I like how distinctly of-his-region he is. PG County, just outside of Baltimore, is one of my favorite places and he is very directly and specifically a product of his environment. "I'm From PG" was one of my favorite songs of the summer.

Great live act too, saw him with Diamond District open for Rah Digga and Black Sheep over CMJ. Worth seeing.

Not at all. Went out there for the first time on February and had a great time. Went back out in May and had an absolute blast.

Wow. That's the first time I've ever heard praise for PG County. I used to live there/VA area. Good music coming out of there, though.

PG has hood parts to it though. Not sure what kind of time you had out there but there's some rough parts around that way.

I think Oddisee is from Olney, Md. Regardless, its close to the PG area.

He's second only to Ski as my fav producer at the moment. The Diamond District album that came out last year was possibly my #2 LP of the year after Raekwon's. "Streets Won't Let Me Chill" is still my absolute shit:

In the Ruff is one of my favorite albums from the past decade really. I need to check more of his work like those other two albums he dropped last year(or two years ago), Mental Liberation and 101 or whatever. I'm diggin that Traveling Man instrumental album from early this year.

Not only is he a great producer, he's a better MC than Wale.

I love this song.

Love this guy (no hohomo). That Diamond District album is still in rotation for me. The shit just bangs in a Roc Marciano 90's sound kinda way except less dusty. I think him and YU are both very capable on the mic - X.O. is just okay in my opinion. His instrumental LP's bang too.

Just got around to hearing this. I heard the stripped down versions of this a while ago and even then those tracks were dope. Good shit, here.

Love Oddisee's music, He needs to give this shit to Finale, Guilty or Someone. This BEAT is Too Dope to waste for an instrumental album, I love this joint.

You could make the argument that he`s the best producer/emcee combo in the game right now.
