When i ask this question I know hip-hop covers a variety of genres. However the recent efforts of these mc's/singers/producers have been very successful and infused alot of different genres into their sound.

Kid cudi's moody spacey electro soul on his two albums.

Kanye's somber post-punk before summing up what he's done production wise on My beautiful dark fantasy.

B.o.b.'s rock/r and b influenced albums with an emo pop hook (nigga even has a mixtape called "No genre").

Drake r and b singer/alright rapper. Dark psychedelic soul with vague electro is his mo.

Lupe fiasco genre bending "Lasers" let's hope he goes back to food and liquor he even said he's leaning in this direction for his next project.

Nicki minaj had alot of electro and new wave pop in her album after her three mixtapes were mainly street.

Shit even Dr. dre got Holly brook aka Skylar grey on a hook like Lupe had on the political laced "Words i never said".

Is the new trend selling hip-hop albums with many other genres gonna continue? Are more mc's gonna sing and produce like J. Cole and Big krit to cover more ground?

You know, it's really hard to answer your question when you posted all the shitty artists that are doing this multi-genre albums.

dr dre - ROFL

You'd think that I didn't like multi genre albums based off this post but I do.

pretty sure they only exist in the twilight zone....i can't think of one, personally...i think when you're doing multi-genre albums- you're not doin you. You're pushing your boundaries for the sake of pushing boundaries. And it rarely (if ever) works. -M2C

cats would do a song with reggae, or rock, or sample some weird instrument.
people are just pushing the boundaries a bit more, i guess
Big Daddy Kane was regularly fuckin with different styles of music.
'Fear of a Black Planet' is a hella diverse album, genre wise.

none of these guys are as good as that, now that I think about it

In theory, gritty electro rap, would be dope as fuck. M.O.P. on some Stress remix

. Mestizo kind of went in that direction in my opinion but not quite.

As for other genres, reggae is great for rap and you got to love r'n'b over dope beats.

I like most songs that even attempt to crossover since I think "another 95 throwback, yeah" are boring as fuck. Actually I like 'em A LOT better than rappedy rap. Throw some electro, dope vocals, some space shit. That being said, I think rappers have been doing this for decades.

And Kanye's album is that good BECAUSE it's "not rap".

I am cool with multi-genre albums as long as they are beyond average. Check Gonjasufi's A Sufi And A Killer. That's a pretty dope multi-genre album and probably the best i've ever heard

Lately I do feel like people have taken it too far to the point it's unlistenable, like the projects mentioned by the threadstarter. It's hard to imagine what some of these new artists are thinking that I get in my inbox nowadays.

I liked when producers used the art of disguise by sampling taking different genres and mixing them into one beat to the point you don't know what genre it comes from, it's just Hip Hop. Prince Paul and The Bomb Squad are a couple good examples.
