The 10 Best New York City Rap Albums of the Past 10 Years
from complex obv
before getting all up in arms do the math, this is only for 2013-2003
http://www.complex.com/music/2013/05/th ... ten-years/
glad to see Ka, Roc Marci and Prodigy on there
nice to see Sean Price mentioned but Monkey Bars >>>>>>> jesus price, and neither one is as good as OBFCL2 or Fish Scale or Pretty Tony
Rocky and Bronson were shoehorned in so the list isn't all old dudes but it could've been worse, like when they put Joey Badass' 1999 on the list of the best mixtapes of all time

Also, DK aka Dylan King who used to write for Al Shipley's website back in 2004/2005 is the best rap writer ever.

Als a good writer but this is a poor selection. Long Live ASAPs understandable though since Sony are lining everyones pockets but yeah lol @ Black Album topping it.

Re: The 10 Best New York City Rap Albums of the Past 10 Year
he said on twitter last night that he might do a GN 10 year anniversary, which would be dope
i'd love to see a comprehensive documentary on all the most influential rap blogs during the early-mid 2000s. it'd be a super rap nerd fiesta, but with tie-ins to how the industry changed, it could be really interesting to the 5 other people like me
PEACE

wait he was Government Names? I had no idea
I was wondering if Diplomatic Immunity got left off because they didn't want more than 1 album per group/click and they already listed Purple Haze

dunno how a documentary could work but a series of articles on it or something would be cool.peanut butter wrote:he said on twitter last night that he might do a GN 10 year anniversary, which would be dope

Ive a feeling this idea deserves a few arrows but - how bout people post their own top 10 NY tapes/albums of that period? Not to find a consensus or anything but its such a disputed/barren era I think itd get some interesting results.

Re: The 10 Best New York City Rap Albums of the Past 10 Year
if Action Bronson is on a list of "Best of" ANYTHING that has to do with NYC...
like before you even embarrass yourself with A$AP Rocky being a "Best Of" when he doesn't even have a real hit record to his name yet
don't even want to read the list
*YOTMB reads list to try to be open minded and not ignorant*
*sees Nas at #10, goes *
*sees A$AP Rocky at #9, GOES *
THIS IS WHY WE WON'T KNOW NICE THINGS
FUCK ANY LIST THAT RANKS NAS BELOW RANDOM NON-DESCRIPT RAP NINJAS IN NYC

This
and fuck that list, with the exception of 1 or 2 albums (Purple Haze, Roc Marci). Complex once again tries to pander to all facets of their perceived readership and ends up pissing most of them off in the process.DLG wrote:money wrote:preach bro preachEscobar305 wrote:

Pretty Toneys much better than Fishscale, that album just got wrapped up in the infamous mid 00s p4k revisionist okie doke along with Hell Hath No Fury and Jeezy's 2nd album

yup I agreedrizzle wrote:calling madvillainy a ny album is a pretty big stretch.

Yeah, can't co-sign that.money wrote:yup I agreedrizzle wrote:calling madvillainy a ny album is a pretty big stretch.
I wasn't a fan of Purple Haze like that when it dropped so I couldn't agree. Marcberg, Pedigree, and Blue Chips definitely were hitting hard coming out of NY.
