I read almost everything Jason Whitlock writes, he is annoying, very hit or miss, but I'm thankful for his existence in the sports media world. But HOLY SHIT was I happy to see somebody out-talk and frustrate him. I really don't understand Whitlock's NBA point. Could the NBA be doing better? Possibly, but I don't think it is fair to compare with the NFL. Gambling, fantasy, and it's schedule give the NFL that advantage. Last years numbers in terms of revenue:

NFL ($9 billion)
Major League Baseball ($7.5 billion)
NBA (5 Billion)
NHL ($3.3 billion)

And that 30 million MJ contract was an anomaly at the time. Didn't Kobe make 30 mill last year? The NBA is doing well and growing globally, plus wasn't game 7 of the finals the highest rated game since the Jordan years? Also the NBA and NHL aren't getting the major broadcast deals like the MLB or NFL, but of the 4 sports up there, the NFL and NBA have the brightest futures in my opinion.

Also, I don't believe the NBA has actively pushed Hip Hop culture. Naturally the two must co-exist considering who your athletes are, but I think the NBA is borderline offensive with their athlete sterilization.
