Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are...

But all of those albums are great. The only one I definitely would not have picked is Aquemini.

Funny cuz I put Aquemini in my car today. I think its overrated. It's not even their 2nd best album, but its a great one.

Moment gets my vote though.

Pun barely edging out Gang Starr for me. The rest on the list don't even come close.

1. Capital Punishment

Pun's album is perfect. Every verse is just plain ill. A great guest spot roster and era-defining production. CP is easily one of my favorite albums ever.

2. Moment of Truth

Its hard to put anything above this album, but there are weak spots that people ignore. The highlights are as good as any though.

3. Aquemini

Some will say its Kast's pinnacle, I say its the start of the downfall. Still doper than anything they, or a lot of other acts, will ever do again.

4. DMX

Shockingly raw. DMX was THE SHIT. So many anthems. I dont know people who didnt own this album when it came out. Still sounds fresh today.

5. Blackstar

Loved it at the time. Its aged poorly.I still dig about half of it. Mos Def was dope as hell, but his current status taints even his dopest verses.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who says this album is better than either of their first two albums doesn't have good taste in rap music; bottom line.

Again, couldn't agree more. Ok, maybe I could. I never loved the album, but I did like it quite a bit.

Gangstarr - Moment of Truth 9/10.. liked this one a lot, never considered it classic for some reason. close though

Big Pun - Capital Punishment 9/10..Had this album, liked it back then but wasnt truely in love.

Blackstar Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are 8.5/10... solid album

Outkast - Aquemini: Ridiculously ahead of it's time production wise. Incredible verses. Their third straight classic.

Gangstarr - Moment of Truth: Arguably Premo's peak production wise. Guru sounds like he almost realises that rap's about to go to shit, Jedi style.

Big Pun - Capital Punishment: One of the illest technical emcees out there over excellent production. A little less cohesive than the above production wise but that's nitpicking

Bonus Jay-Z - Volume 2: Terribly underrated album. Possibly the best "keyboard beat era" production on a single album and Jay is clearly enjoying himself which makes for a great party album.

DMX - It's Dark and Hell is Hot: Really rugged album. Dude should have stuck with Dame Grease instead of Swizz.

Black Star : Dope album, Brown Skin Lady is better than every similar neo-soul song ever. Just not as dope as the above.

Gonna catch shit for this, but help me understand. The album was very well produced and yes, definitely ahead of its time. But save, "Return of The G," "Skew It On The Bar-B" and "Da Art Of Storytellin" what were the incredible verses? I think this album has maybe 5 tracks I could listen to today and the rest would be skipped.

The album was great for its time and prolly the best "smoke-out" album of its day, but it's their 3rd best album IMO.
