busy month for combat sports,
Apr 5 UFC Fight Night 9
Joe Stevenson vs Melvin Guillard
On the same night, the premier of The Ultimate Fighter 5 for the lightweight division, which I'm a huge mark for.
Apr 7 UFC 69: Shootout
Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra
Diego Sanchez vs. Josh Koscheck (can't wait for this one)
Apr 8 PRIDE 34: Kamikaze
Ricardo Arona vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (Arona should run a bjj clinic on this guy)
-Shinya Aoki vs. Brian Lo-A-Njoe (See above, Aoki is a wiz kid)
Apr 21 UFC 70: Nations Collide
Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
David Heath Vs. Lyoto Machida (anxious to see Lyoto in action again)
Andrei Arlovski Vs. Fabricio Werdum
Assuerio Silva Vs. Cheick Kongo (always good to see Assuerio Silva fight, he may expose Kongo as being a hack)
Apr 28 K-1 Hawaii
Golden Boy Badr Hari is fighting for the K-1 Heavyweight Title
At the end of the day, neither UFC 69 nor PRIDE 34 are all that moving, but I'm geeked for Sanchez/ Koschek II and I wanna see what Aoki is going to pull out of his bag of tricks (if he doesn't get KO'd in the process). I think that St. Pierre/ Serra match is a bit of a waste of time but I understand why it has to happen.

^ Yeah, they might as well do the Cro Cop / Sylvia fight.
at least Cro Cop / Arlovski.
I imagine if Assuerio Silva or Kongo finish in a convincing manner they'll probably pit Cro Cop against the winner of that fight.
They really like to build up their product in the UFC before making big matches.
Which is why I don't understand why they're making the Liddell/ Jackson fight so soon. I wanted to see Jackson against Rashad Evans first.

Apparently there's a K-1 Max event going on today in Japan (the 4th):

Buakaw is fighting Andy Ologun
R.I.P. Andy. What lopsided match-making, K-1 must be bored (or sadistic).
Andy Souwer is facing Yoshihiro Sato and I hope Souwer lumps him up badly. I don't care for Sato or other ridiculously tall kickboxers that win against shorter but more skilled fighters due to their freakish genetics. I'm lookin at you Semmy Schilt.

i have 4 bets on this (ufc69) card...
1-0 with kendall grove's very impressive performance...
only reason i'm really posting here now is because of the big bet i have on GSP...
biggest bet i've ever made. my brother also (based solely on my advice, he knows nothing of ufc) made the biggest bet of his life...only thing close was tito ortiz/ken shamrock 3...and even that is dwarfed by this bet...
we both got st pierre at (-950) and it's even worse now (-1100)...
a true bridge-jump. i'm risking a ridiculous percentage of my bankroll for a small return...
anyway, if you have a heart, root for GSP...i was running my bets by my girlfriend earlier, and she gave me the go-ahead on how much i was betting on GSP, so long as if i lost, i 'would still be in a good enough mood to exchange easter baskets'...
lol...
go canada.

as far as diego, i'm also glad he lost. i said previously he fought a bitch-fight, and that's exactly what it was...he never once tried a takedown, even as he was so obviously taking the worst of it on his feet.HustleCrowe wrote: Serra took it to GSP landing numerous heavy handed blows.....
the Koscheck/Sanchez fight was a straight snorefest but Im glad Sanchez lost....
it was almost like he was so afraid of koscheck's wrestling skills, that he was willing to take a losing decision on his feet than get dominated on the ground, because he looked TERRIBLE standing...
on the serra fight, he really impressed me. he took the extra few months (from gsp's injury) to work on his boxing, and he looked GOOD. the only real chance st pierre had was landing one of the missed high kicks.
obviously the line on the fight was waaaay off, but then, how could anyone really know how good serra had gotten on his feet? his last fight he hurt his opponent, but he certainly wasn't gsp...
on another note, my brother has been pretty good about all this...he lost 1/3rd of his gambling bankroll last night based ONLY on my advice, he didn't even watch the fight. i had to take 2 huge shots of redbull and vodka after the fight before i could even call him to tell him what happened...
he called me this morning, and told me not to worry about it, that it was ultimately his decision, that he'll bet 1/10 shots again, and that's he's a gambler...
though i kinda wonder what he thinks when he's NOT talking to me!!
back to grinding, i guess...just sucks to think an entire season (since january 1st) of sports betting profit flew out the window in about 3 1/2 minutes...i had recently even moved up to NL50 full-time, and now i'm moving back down to NL25, with a little NL10 thrown in...
sucks to think about, but shit, serra came out throwing...good for him.
Anyone got a link to the Serra GSP fight, the other one has been deaded by youtube.

sanchez/koscheck was exactly like arlovski/sylvia...even though diego was fighting like a bitch i don't like how koscheck tried to steal the first round by going for the takedown with less than a minute left.
those two mexican lightweights were fucking crazy
matt hughes looked happy as hell he never has to face gsp again

headcrack!
though I think it might be fake.
I've been looking forward to the PRIDE LightWeight GP since it was announced last year.
Since the "merger" they said some UFC fighters may be participating in the GP but Hughes and Sanchez weren't exactly who I had in mind. I can't imagine either of them making 155 at this point in their career.
I was thinking more along the lines of Sean Sherk, Tyson Griffin, Melvin Guillard, Joe Stevenson, Kenny Florian, etc.
Imagine Melvin Guillard against Tatsuya Kawajiri or Kenny Florian vs Shinya Aoki, etc.
There's only 16 spots and an absolute abundance of talent that could fill them.
